A problem with just reading exactly what is there is that often it isn't what the person intended to say. We get used to autocorrecting what we read so it fits what they seem to be trying to say. Once in a while we get it wrong.
Had it been listed as a fraction of a hectare many more of us would have understood the metric reference.
