I'm wanting to start a new surveying-related comic, but struggling with what to call it. The idea in the new series is to portray interesting, amusing and downright funny situations surveyors face. Anyone got any ideas for a title of the series?

Here's #1:

I'm also open to suggestions for future cartoons. They will usually be a single-panel format, but there is room to make the single panel into two or three panels. I don't plan to spend much time doing them, but it's something I like to do during off times, like on weekends. If I could put out one per month, I'd be happy with that.

"Surveying Circus"

"Survey Funnies"

"Trials and Tribulations of a Surveyor"

"Survey or Bust"

just a few off the top of my pea brain...I'm sure others will follow...:-P

The old "The Farside" series comes to mind based on this example, Wendell. How about calling it "The Foreside"? Only name the guy as a recurring character, say, 'Sam'?, or something. And have a caption for each little story. For instance, for the above panel, "Sam dicovered once again that he could still find some things" 🙂

You have a good idea there, Wendell.

I've been trying to think of a surveying-related name, but I gotta say, "The Contrary" is a GREAT name for a Far-Side-esque comic.

One idea I had that is similar to yours (showing that GMTA) was "Surveying Mishaps". But now I'm trying to think of something that could be a play on surveying terms. Still not sure though.

I like the "ForeSide"

How about:

Plumb-bert? (naaah)

Spoil the Rod
Red and GPS-Rover?
Pearls before Survey
Face-2 Face

drowning here Dean...

Wendell - a great idea.

After reading all the posts above, I think "The Contrary" is the winner. Different, applicable, makes you think. Like the forthcoming cartoons, I would suppose.

That reminds me of the first time I saw irrigation pipes under pressure.

And of course, the resulting shower was reclaimed water.

Yep, another mad dash from the scene.

Any connotations should be positive and modern. It also depends on your eventual audience. If it is strictly surveyors or those closely related, then you could go with about anything. If it is to be broadly distributed, avoid "trade" terms, such as pin, rod, tripod, etc.
