In these days of social unrest, plague, global environmental destruction, locust pestilence and dust storms from the Sahara, I read daily from about six or seven news outlets.?ÿ Don't want to miss anything that might be important.?ÿ Don't know when a comet might come crashing from the sky or some third world country sets off a nuke to celebrate the 4th. of July.?ÿ You just never know.?ÿ But I trust these news folks to keep me informed.?ÿ And a couple of headlines popped up today that had to give me a chuckle...or maybe I just don't know what is really important anymore...

BUT, did you know????ÿ Costco is no longer making half-sheet cakes at their bakeries??ÿ?ÿSweet Jesus, can man survive?!?ÿ AND, to top it all off, Pilgrim's Pride is recalling tons of chicken nuggets because they might contain ground up rubber...

Silly me, I just assumed chicken nuggets contained ground up rubber... 😉

And just why would Costco stop selling half-sheet cake sizes?

The really good news reads more like:?ÿ The plans for the annual celebration will be locked down on Tuesday evening at the park following the calf fry feast.?ÿ Betty is bringing Rice Crispy Treats and Barbara has promised to bring her delicious homemade ice cream with the special flavor no one can guess.?ÿ Lawn chairs are recommended as the picnic table seats have been removed by Lynn and Gary for long overdue sanding and repainting prior to the celebration.?ÿ All fundraising ideas will be welcomed.?ÿ Y'all be there, now.

Back in the days when we rode our dinosaurs to school getting your name in the local newspaper wasn't just a neat idea, it was a rite of passage.?ÿ I mastered that feat during basketball season.?ÿ They always reported the performance of any player on the team who scored a field goal or a free throw or made a foul.?ÿ Fouling was my specialty.?ÿ Had my name in the paper after every game.?ÿ They failed to note my coup de grace in the game were I committed three fouls and only eight seconds came off the clock.?ÿ I went in on a free throw for the opposing team.?ÿ The guy missed the shot and I fouled the opponent who thought he could rebound the ball without me nailing him.?ÿ He missed his shot so I fouled another guy during the struggle for the rebound.?ÿ He missed his shot..............you get the idea.

@stlsurveyor

what i read is that cakes that size are for large groups, and that by ceasing sales they are trying to, in some small measure, discourage (or de-incentivize) large gatherings.  or, at least, not be complicit in or help facilitate large gatherings.

@flyin-solo There is no hope. If people cannot resist a large gathering by the presence of a half-sheet cake we are doomed, or have been doomed for along time. A half-sheet cake will last my family of 5 about 3 days.

If the size of the crowd eating the cakes is really the reason; what's next??ÿ 2 liter bottles of pop??ÿ Jumbo bags of chips??ÿ Maybe even the Colonel's iconic "bucket o'bird" ??ÿ

We are truly at a crossroads my friends...

@stlsurveyor

idk- just what i read.  sounds more to me like costco (like many other people and companies) is throwing anything they can at an attempt to look like they're helping.

that seems to be one of the major takeaways for me lately- the prevalence people floodlighting their little personal acts of atonement/social responsibility.

“or, at least, not be complicit in or help facilitate large gatherings.”

That’s a wise observation. Hell, I thought it was to force customers to buy the full size sheet cake.($$$$$) ????

@stlsurveyor

I'd think just opposite - no large gatherings, no call for big cakes.

@norman-oklahoma hereƒ??s ?ÿa link that mentions the c-19 connection, but Iƒ??d agree that demand was probably down during the lockdown. Iƒ??m sure youƒ??re aware that Costco is out of Kirkland WA, and Corporately, they went all in with whatever the Inslee(?) suggested. We quit going when they put in place the everyone employees and customers had to be masked everywhere. Even out side at the pumps. ?ÿI drove thru there about a week ago to see how it was going. Not one person at the pumps or the attendant was masked... the attendant had his hanging on one ear.... ?ÿ all in all I donƒ??t expect to go back- Iƒ??ll be supporting local businesses and trying harder to buy made in USA. ?ÿ ?ÿ https://www.ajc.com/news/national/costco-quietly-stops-selling-half-sheet-cakes-amid-covid/UyQUxGBgJOONrq6YP9zTOL/

In reference to the comet risk, you do know that today is World UFO day, right? Apparently, the 37th parallel UFO highway conjecture has blown up, which makes me feel better about living near the 36th parallel.

Maybe we'll get more respect now. Check your level of UFO respect here:
