To make this as fair as possible, entries into the contest will not be accepted at the end of the day (PST) on the day the 980th user activates his/her account. Activation of an account means that the user has registered, received the activation email message and successfully clicked on the activation link included in that message to officially activate his/her new account. It's the moment that our server receives the activation event that determines our winner.
This post will be a sticky thread from time to time as we get closer to the 980 mark.

The same day we hit 999 users because someone who is already a user will create a new account so they can claim to be number 1000.
It also will depend greatly on how many appearances Wendell and Angel make at various surveyor meetings. Notice how the numbers have jumped recently.

Thanks for the contest!
I don't think it's wise to make a guess until we get close to the 980 mark and see what the trend is then. I expect an upsurge in sign-ups right after that.
