Just a reminder that political and religious posts are not allowed. These often devolve into name-calling and other personal attacks.

My point was proven today when someone created a religion-based post. It started out okay, but by the end (before it was removed), it was devolving into a name-calling, hurtful discussion. We stopped the bleeding before it got out of control.

I understand that many of you may have very strong religious beliefs, but many do not, and I respect everyone's religion or lack thereof.

Forum Rules: https://surveyorconnect.com/index.php?mode=page&id=2

And before I get the emails and responses here saying, "Well, you didn't delete 's post and it had a religious tone, too," just remember that I am only human and I don't catch everything. As it turns out, I have some help from the user population but even then we can't always catch everything. Also, I'm really busy right now and two of the people that help me on a regular basis are unavailable for awhile, so we're a bit short-handed.

Thanks for understanding.

As Tennessee Ernie Ford Used to Say

"Bless your little pea-pickin' heart"

Many things in life can be described as "a dirty, thankless job, but somebody's got to do it." Thank you for keeping us in line.

I've noticed along the way folks down south have a way of saying just about anything they want about anybody and as long as they follow it up with, 'bless his heart', it's okay.

"That boy don't have the common sense of a turnip, bless his heart".

You talkin' 'bout me????

Hey, I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday. (Another of those sayings.)

My family had a family of friends in Arkansas that were especially prone to using such terminology at all times. They lived near Fetvul. (That's Fayetteville to the rest of the world.) Great family names. One son was LeMoyne and another was Sonny Boy. All Jerry Clower had to do to come up with another story was follow them around for a while. The women folk were always tossin' together or scarin' up a mess o' sumpin' fer supper.

I've gone back into part time chimer-inner mostly due to work flow and my limited internet access, but it's great to see a boss in the crowd who says yes and no. And means it, and with good reason.

We all have those not allowed comments views of varying degrees, but it's been really fun without having to experience the sharing of them. Just delete them IMVHO. But this isn't my store, so I just go by the rules.

I wonder how Hub Northing and TDD are doing these days, to mention a couple oldies but not so goodies? 😉

On the positive side, I think all of us will agree that we learn more about stuff we may have already forgotten - from this website. Keep it coming leggers, and Wendell, do all do love you & Angel (& staff) for all you've put at our fingertips.

PS - Go Red Wings!!! 😛 I just had to say it (don't beat me up Roadie...lol).

So, you were ok with the religious post when there was no debate in the subsequent discussion? Only when there were differing opinions is when things went awry?

Ban the original poster for a bit, then, if P&R is truly not allowed.

I didn't see the original post before it was deleted ... but with P&R, there is always differing opinions ...

There is nothing inherently bad about politics or religion - just in people's in ability to be civil about differences. In this case the original poster wasn't soliciting opinions about politics or religion, only that those willing would pray. There were some who, in spite of religious differences with the poster offered support to the poster, there were others who felt it was an opportunity to debate the efficacy of prayer. I have respect for the former and disdain for the latter. Some people just have to find the cleanest spot in the floor to take a dump.

Wendell judiciously decided to remove the thread. It's his house and his rules. He can ban whom he wishes and remove what he wishes. His objective is to keep the place civil. 'Fairness', which it seems what you are after, is a childhood fantasy. Get over yourself.

Not after anything.

It's been made clear that Wendell would rather not have P&R posts.

I saw the original post and it was obscure in nature that leads to communication failure. Poster should have considered that his request might cause a stir. The follow up posts were the usual in reaction until more info was provided that precipitated some mild comments of a political nature. I missed the religious fireworks that caused the deletion.
I'm still confused about prayer request post policy. Yea or Nay.
IMO, if they are needed by a member of the community here then requesting isn't out of line.

This board belongs to Wendell and Angel. If they want to pick and choose every post they allow, regardless of category, that's their right. I'm glad to see P&R gone.

I think the general idea is that it's all fine until someone crosses the line.

It's up to the participant to use judgment as to where that line falls.

If Wendell was to delete every thread that had even the smallest hint of being religious or political and ban the participants, I don't think there would be many people left.

Apparently people were not being respectful, which clearly crosses the line.
