They don't give the surveyors name. Anyone know who kicked arse??
Nice!!!;-)
Looks like one surveyor can beat up two navy guys.
here's the text of the article:
Two Bremerton men are facing felony theft charges – and, in one’s case, hospital bills – following allegations that they tried to steal a GPS receiver before the unit’s owner beat them down.
In charging documents, King County prosecutors contend Paul Christman, 28, and Chad S. Millard, 23, tried to make off with a $20,000 receiver on May 14. The unit’s owner was able to follow the men and retrieve the receiver after a brief altercation.
At 12:30 a.m., Seattle officers contacted Christman and Millard in the 2400 block of East Marginal Way South following a report of a fight.
Speaking with police, both men said they’d been attacked at random by an unknown man, then became uncooperative, Detective Frank Clark told the court.
“Millard and Christman said that they had no idea why this male assaulted them,” Clark said in court documents. “Christman then said that they did not want a report and that they would get a lawyer and deal with this situation themselves.
“I asked Milard if this was what he wanted and Christman quickly blurted out, ‘He’s not allowed to talk anymore.’”
As aid units responded to the scene – Christman had suffered a broken nose – several witnesses came forward and told officers they’d seen a man in a work truck pull up and confront Christman and Millard. The man, witnesses told officers, demanded they return his equipment shortly before the fight began.
Officers were still at the scene when the surveyor returned.
The man told police he and his crew were working on the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project two blocks from the fight location when they received an unusual reading from the GPS unit, Clark told the court. He looked toward the unit and saw Millard and Christman running from the scene with the unit.
Driving after the men in his work truck, the surveyor caught up to them and demanded they hand over the unit, the detective continued.
According to the man’s account, Millard then tried to elbow him and Christman jumped on his back. The surveyor punched both in their faces, retrieved the GPS unit and returned to the worksite.
Millard and Christman have each been charged with a single count of first-degree theft. Both listed their place of residence as the USS Nimitz, an aircraft carrier based in Bremerton. Neither has been jailed.

That's awesome! Hopefully our perverted criminal justice system won't punish him for whooping up on the crooks.
they just screwed up their military careers (if they have not done so already) The navy don't take kindly to that sort of publicity. With a dis-honorable discharge they are screwed getting any kind of decent job.
when you deal with thorns and ticks for a livin'
a petty thief won't stand a chance
Notice that he went back to work.

I was thinking the same thing!! Surveyor kicks some butt, gets his GPS back, and goes back to work like its no big deal. Classic!!
I wish I knew who it was. I'd send him a koozie. 🙂
:good:
Nice! Chalk one up for the good guys.

Good research project for someone in the area. There are some clues in the article.

The story sounds like he won't be in trouble. The key, as I understand it, is whether they started physical violence or whether he did. Stealing your stuff does not justify assault, but if you ask for it back and they hit you then you can defend yourself.

Maybe where you come from Bill, but in Deep East Texas, it goes without saying you tote an a$$whipping for stealing. 🙂
I am going to throw my guess in and say Tim P.L.S., who I believe was from up in that area.
Just a guess, but I miss his posts anyway.
I figured that would be a hanging offense
I'm a Tim and a PLS, but it 'twern't me.
David
For the hanging clause in the statutory law to kick in, you need to have stolen a few specific things,
1. A horse
2. Someones wife (although in this day in time, it is sometimes welcomed and not persued
3. Someone's gun
4. The last beer from the cooler or smoke from the carton
🙂

LOL. Yes, I knew there were only certain things invovled, but I would think that GPS should added. I think of the question why are divorces so expensenive? Because there worth it!
Actually, once confronted, it can be and often is charged as Robbery. which by law lets the aggrieved use physical force to retrieve his property. The use of force on their part raises the bar another level. Under Texas law, that raises it to Aggravated Robbery. Minimum 5 years in the pen.
> > Stealing your stuff does not justify assault
Probably not, legally, in most places. But it should! As a matter of fact, stealing the GPS is kinda like stealing a man's gun. String 'em up!!!

It does when they won't give it back.
Awesome!
