I'm new to this group from John Day, Oregon.
I've been a PLS here in the state for 22 years.?ÿ Also a private business owner.

Welcome.
Had to look up the city name to see if it was from the trapper.
Welcome George from up north in Pendleton.
Welcome to the forum.
D you know Ross Burck?
Welcome.?ÿ Check in daily to see what all is happening here.?ÿ Nearly any topic you might think of has been tackled once or a dozen times already.?ÿ We need new viewpoints.?ÿ And, try to add as much as you take.?ÿ That way we all gain.
I've driven through John Day a couple of times.?ÿ The thing I recall about its namesake is that once, while camping on the Columbia River, he and his partner were robbed by a band of Native Americans, who took everything including their clothes.
Welcome, friend.
Nice avatar.
Welcome, my friend. ?????ÿ
The things one learns by participating here are outstanding.?ÿ Had never heard of John Day or John Day, Oregon.?ÿ The closest comparison I could come up with was Deaf Smith County in Texas.?ÿ Deaf's first name was actually Erastus, though.
Nice avatar.
If you'd taken a wider photo, you could have titled it "4 surveyors and another guy"
Welcome!
I spent a Day in John Day before!

Welcome to the board Geo.?ÿ
Nice country over there in John Day. I worked for an outfit in La Grande back in the day who did a lot of work with a Grant County surveying/engineering outfit. We'd get farmed out to his crew to help him out with John Day/Mt. Vernon/Canyon City in-town work while his crews were doing USFS cadastral work.

Salt o' the earth, no nonsense town, that John day. For instance, here's an old photo of me driving the party chief to the next setup in the company El Camino:
