In the last couple of days I've seen posts that seem to be out of order, e.g. one post will quote from a post that appears farther down the page. Have I changed a setting somewhere?
Not that I'm aware of. I just installed a bunch of updates though, so maybe it was a bug? Not sure as I haven't seen that problem for awhile.
I've noticed this too
I commented on this about a month ago. I haven't been closely monitoring, but haven't been confused by it since.
I've noticed it as well.
I have seen it as well.
Here is another example, confused me at first: https://surveyorconnect.com/threads/carlson-data-collector.324511/
So my eyes haven't been playing tricks on me? Good deal! Life is too confusing already.
Possibly related to Tapatalk? I know Rich and Williwaw are both Tapatalk users.
Maybe an update to the forum side plugin would fix (no idea)

Posting this from Tapatalk myself as a test...
I have noticed it too. Seeing things such as someone replying to a post (quoted) that is further down the thread, etc.

And my test worked I guess...
My reply (quoted above) is showing up as the second post in this thread for me when viewed on the web, but when I view this thread in the tapatalk app it shows the correct order.
I'm posting this reply from the web, so it should show up in the correct location. Let's see...
I also see his Tapatalk post #9 as the second one shown and his web post #11 the last before I reply. So it would appear likely it is not in the eye (browser) of the beholder.
I don't use Tapatalk, same issues.
The problem is with the Forum software, maybe it is just some setting on the server end.
different issue, maybe related. when I get notifications it brings me to the Latest Post (I think) but skips by all of the little side conversations and comments. Unless I spend a Lot of time here I miss most of the related comments... hence I don't come here much anymore, and comment less.
I'm seeing it too. This thread :

From my not so exhaustive test.
The problem seems to be that when a user makes a post to a forum thread using the Tapatalk app, it is messing up the post order for people viewing the forum on the web interface.
When the same user makes a post to the to a forum thread using the web interface, it has no effect on post order for any users.
The Latest Post/Side Comments is an unrelated issue I believe.
yes, this thread too.
IF tapatalk is borking things, that is a serious bug.
tapatalk is just a reader, like a web browser... neither should be able to modify the thread order. unless the barn door is open (or the back door)

Wow, this is a great find! Thank you for catching that.
Peter's reply a few posts up may provide a clue actually.
It may very well be that TapTalk is trying to emulate a browser.
There is certain data that browsers post to a server - like the poster's local date-time zone.
That is certainly a field the server software would be using to maintain post ordering.
Wendell: have a look at the stored data and see what date & time got stored for some of these threads the fellas are talking about. See if that sparks an idea. Also have a look at the server source code where a post is received and/or where it's about to be stored in the DB.
TapTalk users: are there any settings in your TapTalk software or it's account settings regarding date & time?
I'll bet the answer lies within.

Turns out there was a Tapatalk update. Hopefully that will solve the issue from here on out.
