As I read Wendell's motives...

But put in hill billy..

I really liked the old forum. This new one is terrible.

BUT...

As I read what is coming... Wendell says, something like: "be a bit patient... Due to the better format AT WENDELL'S SIDE, in a few months, this forum will soon pass up what the old format could ever be."

Am I getting this right?

Keep warm. And don't fly your drone in jet exhaust!

I agree. Sure hoping Wendell is right, that better things are to come.

Right now it certainly is way different than the old site.

- Lost of bunch of private messages

- No longer can we sort by latest thread

- Old links and searches don't work

- We don't get subscribed to a thread automatically as before

- The Subscribe to Topic now is a a PITA. I have to manually subscribe to my own threads, then I get an email to confirm my subscription, then I get emails about an hour after someone has commented on the topic. This makes the subscribe to topic virtually worthless.

- It was nice see who was licensed and where they lived

- There is no longer a preview post, prior to posting.

I would say alot of work is being done in the background and this is not the finished article. I built my own website before that took quite a long time tweaking to get right and that was only a basic brochure website. I imagine this is a big thing to have to put together.

I like the forum summary page if the lists went back longer it would be very good.

This is also a Business. Wendell needs to minimize his work And get paid advertisers to cover the bills.

so, I figure as long as he can keep it afloat it is his business (pun intended)

===

from my side, the RSS feeds saved it. I now at least scan the content and occasionally open the web site. some times I remember to click on an advert to push up his hits/revenue

absolutely, there is Much Better forum software out there, but Wendell has his personal desires...?ÿ

EDIT: this gray font on gray background is nearly impossible to read, and all the ORANGE really sucks

I put a link to Harness Tech on my post above, did not intend it to be super jumbo. Cheap proprietary crud software... but WordPress is simple and "popular" amongst the bloggers.

Whatever, it's Wendell's business. I suggested a couple open source alternatives but he has issues with "security".

You tell me, are you afraid of your password and email being leaked? Trolls don't like that I hear.

From my understanding, this site is a one-man show accomplished by Mr. Wendell. The previous incarnation site had a lot of amenities (maybe too many) but he stated that it was a monster to maintain and expensive too. After the change, a lot of functions were null and/or not available. I found that with some patience and basic html tagging that one could work around them until they were fixed.

Iƒ??m not that particular, I guess. I participate in 4 online forums, mainly for the information and discussions. As long as the content delivers by the members, I donƒ??t care about formats. There appears to be a group here who depend on the site being a social media platform for their life or lack of.

You canƒ??t always get what you want but if you try some time, you get what you need

I've seen larger (audience) blogs, with a lot more resources, make the wp switch and do considerably worse. I feel the administrators are doing a good job in comparison.

All I know is it's free, and I couldn't come even close to doing it at all ---much less doing it better.

?ÿ- Lost of bunch of private messages

In a big announcement about a month prior to the switch, I said that there was a really good chance that all private messages would be lost and that you might want to make an effort to get the information from them that you needed.

Posted by: leegreen

?ÿ- No longer can we sort by latest thread

?ÿAs mentioned in at least one other thread, I'm working on this. It's not as easy as it sounds.

Posted by: leegreen

- Old links and searches don't work

Some old links may not ever work. However, the vast majority of links to specific topics are still working. That said, I'm still keeping my eyes on 404 errors in an effort to catch bad links and fix them. It will get better over time.?ÿ

Posted by: leegreen

- We don't get subscribed to a thread automatically as before

You can check the box before submitting your post to get notifications. It's one simple click, so I don't look at it as a critical feature, especially since it's not something all users would want.?ÿ

Posted by: leegreen

- The Subscribe to Topic now is a a PITA. I have to manually subscribe to my own threads, then I get an email to confirm my subscription, then I get emails about an hour after someone has commented on the topic. This makes the subscribe to topic virtually worthless.

Not anymore. The subscription confirmation feature has now been disabled.?ÿ

- It was nice see who was licensed and where they lived

?ÿThat part of the old profile system didn't come over. But the feature still exists. You can edit your account to set it up, and I have added the form for new registrations to help encourage people to use it.

- There is no longer a preview post, prior to posting.

?ÿPersonally, I don't see a huge point in that because you can submit your post and edit it right away, if need be. I've also upped the time you can edit a post to 4 hours (it was previously set to 20 minutes).

It would be nice if below our avatars, it showed our license status and what part of the world we're from for those who take the time to update their profiles.?ÿ

Not to mention the guys who like to brag about a difficult job they just got, and want to go on here to hear how great they are for solving the problem. Not realising that what the are bragging about is just an everyday Survey issue.?ÿ?ÿ
