How about for the default homepage, a simple photo relevant to surveying. Where you click anywhere and it then brings you to the forums. The photos could be rotated monthly, and be interesting and nice to see.
Just an idea.

I've finally gotten around to revamping the homepage. I want to do some more stuff but this is a good start. 🙂
