A little appreciation for this board

I've been giving some thought about how nice it is to visit this board sometimes. Regardless of the subject matter, one can almost always count on civilized conversation.

I thought about this after viewing a web posting from the local news station regarding a planned protest tomorrow. Without knowing any facts, hundreds of people immediately begin name-calling, making threats, and crying racism.

That type of thing hardly ever happens on this site, and I would like to offer my appreciation to everyone who contributes here!

My last post had nearly 400 reads, and some great comments by mostly familiar names.
Several years ago, I read but did not comment, being aware that I would probably be out of my league.
But, I jumped right in. Not only have I learned a lot, I have opened discussions on topics where I gained valuable information.

People on this board have been kind, good natured and civil. Replies have been educational and experience-based.

I would like to encourage more participation.

And kudos to Wendell and Angel! 😀

I agree it is a great place to come , but we are a bit censored as compared to the old board in its hey day . But might be a good thing IDK. I did get banned for talking about Obama Care one time, for a couple days, not sure why.
Did I put commas in the right place.

Maybe you haven't been here long enough to see the results of many (read: most) political posts. They become mud-slinging festivals, so we completely removed politics. It's now against the rules, which everyone accepts when they register an account here, so by posting political posts you are breaking the rules.

My life was chaos back when we allowed political discussions because of all the hate mail and such we received. No amount of banning stopped the ridiculousness so we just turned it off completely.

It was a wise decision, in my opinion.

I Second That!

> Regardless of the subject matter, one can almost always count on civilized conversation.

We should all be committed to making it so that we can ALWAYS, no matter what the subject, count on civilized conversation.
We all know there are surveying subjects some here feel passionate about; But maintaining civilized discourse should be our highest priority, IMHO.

:good: :good: :good: I applaud Wendell wholeheartedly for removing Politics and Religion. There's no need for it on a professional-level board such as this!

In the days of P&R it did get pretty nasty sometimes, but I quit reading them anyway. I think doing away with them was an excellent decision.
