Got a great deal on a 5700. I know that I will have to update firmware. Will this work with an older (leica at 302 as an example) antenna? What specs do I need for an antenna for this?

The antenna assembly will contain a preamplifier that needs DC power via the coax cable. The voltage range acceptable to the antenna may vary with manufacturer and vintage, as will the voltage supplied by the receiver. For instance, the Trimble 4000ST antenna has a sticker warning not to use it with older Trimble receivers.

You may not have any problem, but it is critical to verify this before connecting the antenna to avoid creating a paperweight.

You can pick up a Zephyr Geodetic antenna on eBay that was designed for use with that 5700 for a couple hundred bucks. I still use that setup with my R8 & R10 combo to build some redundancy into my post processing work on occasion. Nothing like having those independent vectors into my RTK rover observations for that warm and fuzzy feeling at the end of the day.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

I just bought 5 of them for about $175 shipped. I'm interested in seeing how they perform compared to the Compact L1/L2 and Microcentered models.
