Bruce called in. Neither the base nor the rover is reading any satellites. No American, no Russian. Nothing.

Is anything going on?

I just checked the US Coast Guard site and it doesn't show any impairment of GPS.

GPS Constellation Status

Took El Cheapo handheld outside and it's tracking a bunch of GPS satellites. I wonder if Bruce has discovered that one of his fellow Arizonans has a jammer.

I think Bruce is using an older Leica model.

There were some Solar flares a few weeks ago....

The ionosphere is very quiet at the moment, though. Conditions look ideal for GPSing.

Bruce called his Leica representative. It is a firmware problem, to be fixed within the hour.

{Note from typist-wife: Category on original post inadvertently changed from Land Survey.]

There was a GPS turnover today that affected the older ME firmware in the GPS1200s. There is a new firmware available now that can be,uploaded straight from the CF card. Takes five mins. If anyone else is affected by this please let me know. I'll be happy to send the file to you.

Incredibly good service

I called my Leica representative, Nick Cournoyer. Hated to do it on a Sunday morning, but I was really stuck. I continue to be astonished at the depth of his knowledge, on the phone, and it is just as if he has the unit in front of him. He sent me the file and I'm uploading now. Even more amazing, he is no longer with Leica and he still took my call and helped me. Now that is an exceptionally decent man. He has his own dealership and I hope you don't mind if I put in a plug for him:

Incredibly good service

Nick is, indeed, a very good man. He was very knowledgeable and helpful to me when I was borrowing someone else's equipment.

Good guy.

P Perkins,

You will need to load the new Measurement Engine FW version 3.883 on your ATX1230 GG antenna. You can download the needed files from Leica myWorld or maybe C Lawley has already emailed it to you.

Please let me know if you need another source to get the file and instructions.

I just finished updating the firmware in our base unit. The crew was heading to the other side of the state tomorrow. Once again Surveyor Connect saved the day... or at least several billable hours and numerous colorful epithets. ..
