I am purchasing a SP80 to use as a network rover. It is a single base network so when you log in you choose the base you want corrections from. The sales rep said I need to add the GSM modem/SIM card slot to the Carlson Surveyor 2. I believe the SP80 comes with the modem SIM card slot in the unit. I have never used a rover with built-in modem. How does it work? Will I still be able to choose the base I want.
If anyone is using this setup ( or similar) and could give me some advice that would be great.
Thanks!
Sp 80 includes gsm SIM and modem, or you can use Wi-Fi from head to hotspot.
You could use SIM in surveyor2, but it actually complicates operation.
The internal sp80 modem works great, you just choose mount point normally.
This has the advantage of sms to head and theft protection too.
Surveyor 2 is a great dc. It is a great combo.
Have you looked at the sp60 too?

Great, thank you for the info. So the sim card goes in the SP80 and communicates with the dc using bluetooth? Is it user friendly? Hopefully the user manual is helpful.
I have not looked into the SP60. How does it compare with the 80?
thanks
Excellent manuals, perhaps best in business.

Both the SurveyPro, FASTSurvey and Carlson SurvCE drivers are excellent.

I typically recommend using WiFi instead of modems, simply because hotspots are more flexible and you can walk in to any wireless store and pick one up without having to explain what a GPS, Data Collector, or Surveyor is.
