We recently had the radio, a TRL35 that came with our Hiper II's die. We bought a Pac Crest ADL radio to act as our base radio. We have had it a couple of weeks and can't get it to work. The dealer has tried and I'm about to the point I'm going to send it back. Does anybody have any ideas on some kind of setting I might be missing? We are using a Ranger data collector with Survey Pro if that makes any difference.

Did you set the channel spacing to 12.5 and PDL mode in both the ADL and the Hipers? The ADL may only use PDL, while your TRL35 was able to use PDL, Simplex and Trimtalk.
Yes, I'm pretty sure the channel spacing was programed to 12.5. We narrow banded shortly after we bought or Hiper II system.
The receivers have the ability to be set to PDL, Simplex and Trimble with the built in radios inside the units. I'm pretty sure the ADL was setup for PDL.
Inside the Hiper II's there is also a setting for scrambling and after that and setting for Link Id. This link ID defaults to 1 when the scrambling was turned on.
If the scrambling was turned on inside the Hipers and the new ADL radio, the GPS would show something like a 40% radio reception but it would never give a fixed solution.
As it sits we returned the Pac Crest radio and ordered a Topcon 35 watt radio instead. It costs about $1000 more but the dealer is a lot closer than the one we bought the Pac Crest from. It appears to me after looking at pics on line that this Topcon radio is made by Satel. Hopefully this radio will hook up and work.
Connect to the Radio with PC and vendor software, change Bandwidth to 12.5Kz, then change Radio Link > Link rate to 4800 Baud rate, then check Modulation, most common setting is GMSK. Change Protocol to TrimTalk 450s, or Transparent with EOT Timeout, the protocol your vender recommends. Click Apply, then program.
Disconnect vendor S/w from radio, power cycle OFF, then ON, reconnect vendor S/w to confirm all your changes were applied, field test the radios in RTK mode, see if they bark again.

They definitely work! We bought four TDL-450H. I had some issues getting them to work, but it was only because of my lack of knowledge at the time. I heard lots of salesmen tell me that they wouldn't work with our Hiper V. It was difficult sorting through all of the bu11$ h!t that everyone was telling me. The people at Pacific Crest confirmed that the TDL-450 would work when a few dealers were telling me it was impossible.
The combination that we ended up with was:
Serial Interface
Baud: 38400
Protocol: Tranparent w/ EOT
Radio Link
Bandwidth: 12.5 kHz
Link Rate: 9600
Modulation: 4FSK
The link rate and modulation ended up being the issue. I was trying to run the Hiper V at GMSK, which is 4800 default in the Hiper V, and it was running super hot and killing a deep cycle battery in 5 hours. I've since switched the Radio to 9600/4FSK and the Hiper V to match. It works great and the modulation/link rate fixed our battery issue. The only issue you may have is obtaining a Hiper II/V to TDL-450H serial cable. They are out there it just takes a bit longer when trying to get them through a Trimble dealer. However, my local Trimble dealer has been super helpful and could easily obtain them for me.

When we get a new radio, I will probably be looking at this thread again. I know the radio, the TRL35 had the link rate set to 4800 and it was killing the battery in 5 hours or less. Hopefully the Topcon radio will hook up and work.
Some how it seems sad that I or someone on this board is more of an expert than the people that sell this stuff.
Just an update, we got a new radio today, its a Topcon SRL35 radio. I'm almost positive its a rebranded Satel radio. Hooked it up to our Hiper II's and it worked right away, no problems. I drove about 6 miles outside of town and was still getting a fixed solution so I should be good to go.
The Satel radios are really nice units. I've used, sell and support the Satel EASy 35Pro UHF Radios. No over heating issues, LCD Display, keypad for changing channels, and power settings. A well built, solid RTK Base UHF radio setup.

Bob, I'm pretty sure thats the exact same unit we got, just painted a different color. I think we will be happy with it and the best part is, it hooked up and worked.
