Microsurvey Field Genius

If I can use it for our robotic applications I would expect that most anyone can. We've been using it for around ten years and never had to ask for service. I have to note that I've skipped the last few updates as for what we do it is a tool that we are comfortable with.?ÿ

I hope to use it with an old Topcon GTS 825 paired with parani blue tooth. I'll probably have to push the blue tooth out of my Hemisphere CW400 data collector using the bottom port?ÿ

I use FieldGenius 10 for total station and GNSS. ?ÿI love it. ?ÿItƒ??s great with line work. ?ÿWhen youƒ??re done with a topo and you do it right the cad drawing is largely completed. ?ÿAll that said I would say the learning curve is easy to moderate.

@alalib?ÿ ?ÿI have viewed a ton of videos on Fieldgenuis.?ÿ ?ÿ I am switching from Carlson SurvCe?ÿ Field Genius seems like a mesh between old geodimeter software, Old Trimble software and some Survey pro software.?ÿ There are some neat features, but then a lot of cumbersome features as well.?ÿ ?ÿSite localization is back to the old Trimble?ÿ Geodetic v cartisan points.?ÿ Not really a bad feature at all.?ÿ Line stake with offset seems more like the old geodimeter stuff?ÿ defining lines first no plug and play there.?ÿ

I suppose I'll learn more after working with it.?ÿ

Well, I bought field Genius.?ÿ Compared to Carlson Survce this is slow and difficult to navigate.?ÿ Also, this software doesn't allow a continuous connection to a data collector internet using a hot spot.?ÿ

Out of 12 attempts to connect, only 4 were successful. Out of the 4, only 1 allowed me to take shots.?ÿ ?ÿthe other connections, dropped the handshake before taking one shot.?ÿ

Not a good look for Field Genius?ÿ?ÿ

@goodgps?ÿ Have you contacted them??ÿ Perhaps it needs a workaround for the older equipment you mentioned?

FWIW, although I use a legacy manual total station (Sokkia SET330R3) I had some communication issues with an earlier version of FieldGenius. Namely, multiple failed distance returns. The newest version seemed to clear it up for whatever reason.

I will +1 Andy J's comment WRT contacting MicroSurvey, in my opinion they're good people.

As a postscript, I've grown to really like FG. I'd go further but I would be threadjacking.
