I put a combined scale factor into the Viva then went and ran my traverse and sideshots between my GPS pairs closing at 1/50,000. When I export that rw5 file (or fbk or xml) do I need to put that scale factor into Carlson for the adjustment? Or are the distances exported to the rw5 file already grid distances?

compare your distances on the data collector and in the computer.

Historically, at least dating back to the days of the T-2000, Wild/Leica has output the distances as ground. I'm currently exporting to GSI from our TPS1200 to a custom format file. The results are most definitely in ground. I don't think there is a way to export grid distances in the format file manager.

I just did a quick test. Viva (5.50)

I set my SF to .500000 then exported a carlson RW5

I opened the file in notepad. This is what the header said.

"JB,NMTAC,DT12-02-2014,TM08:51:51
MO,AD0,UN2,SF1.00000000,EC1,EO0.0,AU0
--US Survey Foot
--Carlson RW5 file created by X-change core engine v6.0.0
--Date (creation): 12-02-2014 08:51:51
--Date (last modification): 12-12-2014 09:55:55
--CRD: Numeric

I have to find a job with Total Station data to see if the Coordinates change. But it looks like the RW5 export only exports Ground.
