Jim,

I tried at 5:30 PST and was successful, although I received a notice about "outdated certificates" the first time I tried.

Looks like their SSL expired. I probably wouldn't go around the warnings either, since it may have been compromised.

I haven't had any luck in finding any information from anybody either.  Adam would only say:

Hi Kelly, the servers are being worked on.

When asked in follow up:

Good to know. I never received a notice of the planned outage... or was it planned?

Adam's automated reply was his response:

I will be unavailable from 5/19/23 until 5/28/23. If you need support please contact your Javad GNSS representative or one of the Live Technical Support Team members listed in the LS or email Support@javad.com.  For Sales please send an email to Sales@Javad.com. Thanks, Adam

Matt Sibole didn't know anything about this outage, nor did Linda Campbell.

Emails to Eugene Aksyonov of course are ineffective because he, like so many of my Javad GNSS friends in the Moscow office (Moscow Office · The Triumph Palace, Moscow, 125057) have been thrown under the bus. Eugene would never have allowed this to happen, nor would have Javad allowed the condition to go unaddressed if he were still alive.

Both the support forum and the DPOS servers have been compromised since at least late 20230528

https://app.javad.com/jca/#/dpos/upload

https://support.javad.com/index.php

The old website is still apparently working:

http://www.javad.com/jgnss/

As is the "new" website:

http://www.javad.com/

From its news-events page

https://www.javadgnss.com/news-events/

Not a word about the forum nor DPOS both being indisposed. But there is the exciting news about Javad GNSS opens office in Fort Worth. The Javad news release says Fort Worth, but Governor Beshear's press release says the new office is in Fort Wright, KY.

Apparently the move to KY has been planned for the past 18 months or so, at least that's what's suggested here:

https://www.bizapedia.com/ky/javad-gnss-inc.html

Fort Worth, Fort Wright, or Frankfort.PNG

Regardless of Javad GNSS being in

Fort Worth, Fort Wright, or Frankfort, Javad users deserve Javad GNSS to be forthright.

What should have happened when the servers crashed, or were hacked, or whatever, instead of the silence for the past several days from Javad GNSS, there should have been an immediate response with an email sent to every customer in their database alerting them as to the nature and cause of the outage and that they would be notified immediately when the issue(s) had been resolved. Likewise, those who are subscribed to their newsfeed should have been duly and immediately informed. We need DPOS back up and running as soon as possible.

Flag of Ukraine

The other thing that Javad GNSS should do is stop hiding behind the Putin Elephant in the Room, pretending that it doesn't exist. If/ when the support forum ever is restored, do a word search for Ukraine, and see what comes up. I confess that I have remained silent on the Javad forum, biting my tongue for a myriad of reasons including and especially not wanting to hurt any of my friends. But healing and understanding can't begin to happen until we can begin to talk about what's been going on with Javad in Moscow.

winter on fire

On March 3, 2022, the morning when I received the newsfeed related to Shawn Billings' article, with its title, "A Surveyor's Perspective", my heart leapt because it has been utterly broken over Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's horrific atrocities in Ukraine, not just this year, but for at least the past 10 years. By the way, if you haven't seen the excellent 2015 documentary covering the bloody period in Ukraine from late 2013 to early 2014, Winter On Fire yet, you should. It's most particularly salient for understanding today. My heart leapt because, just for a second, I thought I'd be reading a testament from a surveyor and user of Javad GNSS equipment in support of the peoples of Europe, Ukraine, and Russia, and a resounding denouncement of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and his absolute ruthless actions.

Thanks to my time spent working for Javad Ashjaee in 2014 and 2015, I still have many friends in Moscow and elsewhere in the world.  I enjoyed immensely our collaboration and will always treasure that experience. I recall in March 2014 when I was flying across the country from Maine to California filled with tremendous excitement in anticipation of what laid ahead for that coming week in San Jose; meeting Javad Ashjaee, and possibly even working for him. At each layover in between Bangor and San Jose, the Crimean-Russian crisis was blaring on every airport television as the crushing military actions in Crimea had come to a full boil. I recall thinking at the time that my hope and dreams of working with Javad would be snuffed out before I even got off the plane.

PreProduction Debut

The next morning, rested after a full day of travel, and yet to arrive at the factory, things seemed brighter to me with both the moon and sun shining opposite each other on the horizon. Traveling back home to Maine later toward the end of that week, on the vernal Equinox; Nowruz, the Persian New Year, the Triumph LS also began shining.

The following year, 2015, again during the week of Nowruz, several of us met in San Jose. I will never forget that time spent with Javad, Neda Ashjaee, and all of the surveyors seated around the table while Javad screamed over the speaker phone at Alan Cameron. I can only imagine that their embarrassment was equal to, or even greater than mine in that moment he became so unhinged. The air in that room was so toxic I had to leave, go outside, where I sat on the curb for several minutes to collect my thoughts and feelings. The issue which had monopolized that entire morning, both before and after the call to Alan, was Javad's article he had written in support of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's annexation of Crimea. That article, We the People, is still up on the Javad website. I've asked on several occasions that they please consider taking it down and replacing it with a much more complete chronicle explaining and highlighting Javad's pivotal role in how GPS and GLONASS got together in the face of opposing politics then in the beginning, and how it can again. From my perspective, we need to hear that more now than at any other time.

Everyday I'm greatly worried about my Javad GNSS friends in Moscow, now scattered, because of the hardships they have for the past 14 months continue to endure, all because of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. I know my friends are frightened not just for themselves but for all of the Ukrainian people. We are all frightened and worried. I remain troubled about it more and more each day that passes. Yet in spite of the current Ukrainian-Russian crisis darkening our world, I'm reminded of all light gathering people interconnected with one another by love, science, and art. We'll get through this, but only by vanquishing the darkness together.

Kind regards and God's peace to us all.

Kelly

Javad's article he had written in support of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's annexation of Crimea. That article, We the People, is still up on the Javad website.

That will certainly influence my purchasing decisions.

@lurker  You know, you are right, of course! We(me, at least) were trying to avoid Javad from any political related articles in business area. To me it was just a rule to not mix business and "personal understanding of the life". In all terms it doesn't bring happy to both sites if you arguing, but life is boring if you don't arguing to somebody. For Javad this company was the projection of himself to the world. So he used this opportunity to make the world better. What is truth - it was sincere every time. He had this luxury in opposite to many others.
@kelly Thanks for the post. Yes it is truth, I am not responsible for the services and development in the company anymore. All activities transferred to the new management. It is sad to hear about the issues you guys experiencing at the moment, it is still hurting me(maybe due to many years spent to setup it), and I wonder why that happen but I can't comment it due to unawareness. It was a nice Team's picture that you had shared. I have the same but taken from other site (from office in San-Jose) :-).

I wish you all who has the issues have them resolved ASAP, regardless the different opinions around.
Good luck in the field!

Kelly,

I haven't worked for Javad GNSS since August (as I recall) after nine years working as a contractor for them (mostly as an advisor). I don't have any financial interest in Javad GNSS. To perhaps add some clarity, from what I understand, the Javad offices in Moscow are no longer part of the company and I believe it's been disbanded. The company created a new office in Lithuania and some of the staff left Russia to move there. I don't know who moved or how many.

The war in Ukraine presented a lot of difficulties that most of the affected people did not ask for. As you pointed out, we have many friends in Russia, people I came to respect as talented programmers and engineers and who I value as people with families and interests (fishing, skiing, basketball, etc.) of their own. The loss of human life is the greatest loss the war brings, but there are many other losses too, one of which being the dispersion of a great team of people. For the record, before the war in Ukraine went hot last year, Trimble and Topcon also had programmers in Moscow, and both had to cease operations in Russia also.
