I have been trying to diagnose problems that I have been having with my new RTN setup. I am using the Florida Permanent Reference Network (FPRN) that is run by the Florida DOT (Leica setup). There NTRIP has the following RTCM3 mount points: MAX, iMAX, VRS and NEAR to choose from. I am using a Topcon HIPER Lite+ with a Carlson Surveyor+ getting corrections from an iPhone hotspot.
The problem I have is that sometime it works, sometime it doesn't. I have been primarily using the VRS mount point because of firmware range limitations. I have noticed that the VRS sometimes will assign me a reference station near my position (as expected) and will even get a fix for a short period and then it will move the reference station on me to what appears to be the nearest available CORS station (which is many miles away) and I then cannot get a fix. I didn't think VRS was supposed to do that. Has anybody seen something like this? Also, Is there anyway of ascertaining the status of a RTN from the outside (like checking if a reference station is operating or not)?
Not sure why the VRS changing to nearest CORS.
I suggest testing your Hiper on Cinderella Tuesday.
Every other Tuesday you can enable the Cinderella option using TRU or PCCDU.
This turn all options in Hiper, like unlimited RTK range and all static memory.

I'd also give Carlson a buzz on Monday to have them do a walkthrough on your equipment/RTN setup inside of SurvCE. They generally have a solid grasp of how RTN's are setup and can at least look for anything glaring.
