Ashtech/Thales Z-MAX Zxtreme rollover fix

I am still using Zxtreme's for OPUS and static work.?ÿ I am currently using winteq to correct the gps week for OPUS and am definitely interested in a potential fix.?ÿ

Any hope for Z-XII and ZSurveyor?

I have a spare Z-XII for experimentation. (I have others, but wouldnƒ??t want to risk bricking them.)?ÿ

Problem.is that I dont have access to Zsurveyor and Zxii firmware

The real question is: Why? There are so many better choices to use. New base/rover pairs with GLONASS can be had for +/-10k. Retire those clunky boat anchors!

Because I have 3 Z-receivers and matched geodetic antennae. And they work as well as the day they were delivered, (with the only exception of W/R). Newer is faster, but not more accurate. And itƒ??s pure love. I use T2 and HP3805 for the same reason.?ÿ

They are obsolete, but they are not worn out, and theyƒ??re not financed.?ÿ

Even if you can get the firmware updated, how are you going to get around the FCC 12.5 narrowbanding? As far as I can remember from my Ashtech days, none of their receivers could be narrowbanded.

Not an issue for static work.?ÿ No communication between receivers!

If radio is problem use external one. I have modified zmax radio module and put Lora-base DUT inside. Works very well.

BTW, why hijack thread about Z receiver firmware with hate speech ? if you don't like those receivers or think that they are old bad heavy just .... start your own thread. This behavior should be moderated!

i did have to replace the internal cmos batteries. Which was kind of hard, but the original batts lasted well over 10 yrs.

And the download software is win10 USB compatible. The ZSurveyor writes to compact flash. So why not? In my neck of the woods 1 hr, 1.5 hr and opus is just fine. Phase differential fixed integer baseline is still near perfect at 0.2 miles or 100 miles. Opus is just an option.

So, the RF section and 701008 antenna are stellar. Oh boohoo theyƒ??re only 12 channel L1/L2 Z mode. $35K ea in 1998 was real money.?ÿ

I've got a fully functional set of legacy e units. I've replaced internal keep alive Batts. With 35 watt base batt, and old PDL 3500 rover radio.

I've also got some old 8 channel l1 locus units.

Yes, old. But, they were fine gear!

After running a javad.... It's hard to think of going back.

But, I hate to see these gather dust.

ZSurveyor, high grade antenna, and opus impresses me to no end. Setting and controlling 30 targets over a county wide project in 1980 was a big deal.?ÿ

they work great. The W/R error is a quick fix in post, not a deal breaker. A firmware upgrade for W/R would be nice, and completely optional.?ÿ

I would be very interested in an tweaked firmware for the Z-Max receivers. We're still using about a dozen of them - having purchased them all new many years ago. I have been going through our inventory over the last week or two, re-furbishing battery modules, replacing CMOS batteries, and ensuring they're all on the most up-to-date firmware. We have a work-around for the rollover in data processing, but it would (of course) be preferable to avoid the hassle.

In fact, we also have four of the Z-Xtreme receivers too, so I'd be keen to see if we can drag them kicking and screaming into the current age.

I appreciate the interest in maintaining these old workhorses!
