I am hoping to sit for the Virginia State Land Surveyors Exam this coming January (hoping I got my application in early enough) or in April. I'm currently licensed in a couple other states, but I am not really familiar with Virginia laws and regulations. Any advice on what I should be concentrating on reviewing, or anything thing particular I should look at picking up, aside form the normal statues and such?

Normally the Virginia Association of Surveyors puts on a review class before the April exam. I'm not sure when and it's not listed on the website. For the fall test, they normally have what they call the John Foster school at Roanoke College, a four day seminar in July. I recommend either of them. I would look up the Byrd Act, from the 1930s, that declares any County or State maintained secondary road to have a 30' public Right-of Way. I would also look up the Chesapeake Bay Act of 1990 and the revisions to that in 2014 and the Stormwater and Erosion and Sediment Control regulations.
