@bstrand What you have to be careful of is giving them the impression that you??re twisting their arm. That can backfire quickly.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

I've got Norman Greenbaum all lined up...

Again, I don't understand this.?ÿ It's not me twisting their arm, it's the market twisting their arm.?ÿ I'm not suggesting the employee be a dick about it, but.. business is business.
qualified help
Qualified? of course, not self proclaimed qualifications. ?????ÿ
I've got Norman Greenbaum all lined up...
That song is the first one you memorize in prison. ?????ÿ

So... are you saying you only hire degrees and certificates??ÿ Because I'm not sure how else one might assess their qualifications than through some form of personal examination.
An employee trying to charge you for skills he doesn't have is an entirely different animal than punishing them for showing you evidence of what those skills are worth.
That song is the first one I memorized in prison...

So you're saying the Nuns didn't make any difference at all?

Easy. Always be flush with cash, which all but eliminates young surveyors.
sheesh, yeah. If you work in Alaska, and are making those big bucks, you can pull the hot babes.

I'm not sure about the top 5, but the one driving me crazy right now is:

Why does my washing machine leak if I don't run it at least every other day?
If I run it every day or every other day, no problem. If I skip two or more days it leaks!
WTH!
@dougie?ÿ
It might be the first song he memorized on his second or third stop in prison.?ÿ The song hadn't been written yet when he went in the first time, ????ÿ
1. Why does equipment always break down when doing hay
2. Why does it decide to rain when doing hay
3. Why do I always lose my glasses and my kids or wife point to my head when I am looking for them
On another note survey related. Throw all the boundary law my way. I am studying for PS exam.?ÿ
Why does everyone that surveys for engineers always use civil3d. ?ÿAnd most survey only companies use other software. ?ÿ
Equipment does not break while setting around unused.?ÿ Theoretically, if left unused for a long period of time, certain issues do occur.?ÿ But, generally speaking, it won't fail until you go to use it.
Put a new sending unit in my gas tank on my old flat bed truck.?ÿ Filled the tank until it refused to take anymore.?ÿ Gauge read just under half full.?ÿ It appears to be a grounding issue.
Gooseneck ball appears to be a bit loose on the same truck.?ÿ Who knew??ÿ No one until the mechanic was under the bed replacing the sending unit.?ÿ Happened to look at the bottom side of the ball and noticed shiny metal where there shouldn't be any.
@holy-cow So true. ?ÿ????. Yes i had one of those weeks. Disc mower broke. I had taken off work to get all this done. Had a 4 hr total drive just to get parts of course covid is the reason no parts local. Finally got everything cut by bed time. Tedded next day. Then checked field half was ready to bale other half still to wet. So i raked the dry half baled. ?ÿ Started tedding the other half. While the ladies farm hand picked up the bales. They come to me at 530 pm and say we have no help rest of weekend can you bale now. I said I still have to rake and its still not ready yet. I baled it like the requested. And then helped get the bales up. Baling at dark picking up till 930. Had the wife bring my daughter over to drive truck and hay wagon. But its on them now. I start cutting another field tomorrow got equipment moved today. I am wondering what will break this time lol. But its all fun till its not.
Don't let me get anywhere close to farm machinery.?ÿ All I have to do is look at it and something will fail within the first ten minutes of attempted use.
@holy-cow lol. I feel the same way. But no words can explain how a field looks right after being cut. Then being raked. ?ÿThen seeing those small bricks laying in a line as straight as a surveyor could have staked them. Then seeing that field all clean again. No matter how much stress and sweat happens. Also watching from the tractor seeing kids turn kart wheels and running through the field or on the hay wagon. Two blond hair blue eyed kids on a green field is like looking at sunflowers. All the money in the world can??t buy those moments.
Absotively, posilutely.?ÿ A great deal of education and maturing goes on right before your eyes.
@holy-cow So true. We had one of those proud parent days this past week. Our 11 year old heard over the morning announcements at school about an FFA event coming up after school for this next week. Of course they all have computers or laptops things for classes now. Anyway the wife tells me late Friday night as I was eating a sandwich that our daughter sent an email to the teacher/staff about the FFA event and how she would ??appreciate ?? more information on how to join etc etc. ?ÿMy wife said her email was out together very well and very respectful and of course better grammar than I could achieve. ?ÿNow I was excited that she is wanting to join the FFA. But as I finished haying over the next day it hit me. Besides the FFA somehow our daughter took the initiative to gather information on a subject she was interested in and connected the FFA to her future goals of possible becoming a veterinarian. ?ÿShe didn??t have to come home and say mommy can you find out about this she did it on her own. And did it very well. It is amazing what a child can do when you put them in situations to have to think and be responsible at early age. Now she is a kid and will make us pull our hair out at times as well. But her mom is such a great influence on her. I am just the dad who tries to teach by example hard work but the wife is all over the teaching her more life skills. ?ÿI would have never been able at her age to put together the words she used to request more information the way she did.
To tell the truth, it is hard to remember what it was that I should have been asking others when I started in this business in 1978.?ÿ Part of why that would have been tough is that my co-workers didn't know significantly more than I did at the time.?ÿ We were all young.?ÿ No true mentors available.?ÿ And, there was no such thing as SurveyorConnect or the internet, for that matter, to use as a resource.?ÿ We were all learning by the seat of our pants and the school of hard knocks.?ÿ All drafting was by hand.?ÿ A transit used by Noah while building the Ark.?ÿ Chaining pins and a 100-foot steel tape.
