President of our 439-member HOA here. We have a few odd ducks who want nothing to do with us, but most chip in extra to fund our most popular program - paying local deputies to patrol the streets in their off hours. Crime in our area is exceedingly low for a reason.?ÿ

@bruce-small

And in your 439 member HOA you have less crime, your house will sell quicker and for 10% more than a non HOA site, no engines hanging from trees, no "slightly used" cars parked randomly in front and back yard with no?ÿ trunk or hood attached but close by, no washing machines on the front porch, no Bud lite or Busch can lined gutters (if any), no satellite dishes in front yard that get decorated for Christmas, no pit bulls roaming free, no empty Red Man tobacco pouches or Big Gulp cups randomly scattered everywhere, no baby diapers laying in the road, no visits from law enforcement personnel 6 times a day, no shooting at airplanes on the 4th of July, no garbage cans residing at the curb on a permanent basis, no competition events to see whose grass dies first, no Walmart, Dollar Store or Kmart bags decorating any dead trees that happen to be around, no guns going off sporadically on a continuous basis 24/7 etc.......

In a nutshell it just appears us weirdos that prefer to live in a more pleasant environment without the Jerry Springer atmosphere may be a wrung higher on the evolution ladder. ?????ÿ

@flga-2-2

Hold on just a second here.?ÿ I thought all appliances in the South were supposed to be located on the front porch.

...I thought all appliances in the South were supposed to be located on the front porch.

I think it depends on what you call the front porch.

My granny's house had a door that kinda faced the road.?ÿ It had been nailed shut since WWII because there was a sideboard and china cabinet inside standing in front of it.?ÿ If anybody knocked on that door you knew they didn't know where they were at.

The real "front" porch was in the rear.?ÿ And that's where all the appliances (fridge and washer) were at.?ÿ

@paden-cash

Our freezer and washing machine (wringer style plus washtub for rinsing) was on the back porch near the pump (well was beneath the porch).?ÿ What appeared to be the front porch was just a concrete slab below a small roof.?ÿ Anyone knocking at that door was definitely a stranger.?ÿ ?ÿThe main entry was on the side with a larger concrete slab but no roof.?ÿ Some large flat limestone rocks were used as sidewalks.

Well, I will say my sympathy for the homeowners isn't infinite.

First they bought the house voluntarily.

Then they never go to the meetings.

Eventually dumb people must get what they deserve.

My dad was president of a condo association for a few years.?ÿ He said it was a frustrating and thankless job, one that makes you the target of a lot of people with axes to grind.?ÿ?ÿ

I've done work for a couple of HOAs.?ÿ They make good clients, but you do have to put up with a lot of nosey and sometimes hostile residents, as you're usually there to establish a line that's in dispute.?ÿ When you're done someone there loves you and someone there hates you.?ÿ But the HOA management company will pay your bill.
