Just a different angle here. Maybe the PLS in the office should be more concerned and focused on client contact, boundary resolution, deed research, monument examination, staying on top of field work, etc. You know surveying. For example, I can hold my own own with CADD. I can complete what ever plat I need. However I have a draftsman with a drafting degree and he is a wiz on the computer and can draft circles around me. That's what I pay him for. I don't have the time to be on a computer when I have other duties as the PLS and owner. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you. However, he should force himself to learn Microsoft suite, including the above mentioned Outlook, at the very least.
My first reaction to that post was "You arrogant little, button-pushing sh@t"
Actually, that was also my second reaction.
Still waiting for my third. I don't think it's going to improve.
Don
Don't blame the man, That can be tricky to learn new software. Every office has a dude like him, if he goes another will show up, get use to it.
Wendell , You nailed it!
I bet the original poster has had bosses saying exactly the same about his competence
When he was being taught...
The poster needs to understand that some older folk have difficulty in trusting the technology.
My experiencing with this goes back to 1971 when I was the lucky user of a HP 37 as all the old traditional LS preferred using a 300 foot invar chain as they did not trust the dial twisting marvel that measured in feet or metres.
Eerily, I bet the original poster of this thread has no idea what instrument I am referring to.

I’m inclined to hold out for the other guy’s take on the situation before commenting too. Until he does, the recommendations above about making practical tutorials, “smartbooks” as cptdent calls them, benefits everyone. It’s easy and quick with the snip tool in windows7+ or an ALT+print screen. You can paste screen shots or dialog boxes into Word, type in some brief instructions and never have to cover that ground again. The time saved will allow you to listen to what the old PLS may be able to educate you on.
