Yesterday I hosted the TrigStar exam at my old High School, Nauset Regional High School. I had 61 students attend the exam because the math teachers do a great job talking it up, presenting sample questions and assigning past exams as homework. They are a very supportive bunch. I believe this was my ninth or tenth time presenting at Nauset.

I find it enjoyable to present the TrigStar exam and even though my youngest is graduating this year I will continue. It's fun when the Math Department Head give the award, and our token prize of $50, at the awards night and I get to hear "Outermost Land Survey" said several times to a couple hundred captive parents! 🙂

And speaking of awards, last night was Winter Sports Awards night and my daughter got a special mention for being the Swim Team Manager. She had an accident in her freshman year (broke her elbow) that limited her ability to compete but the coach felt that she had done most than her part!

some of y'all might recall when I posted a picture of her doing some GPS data collection for me a few years ago 🙂

Then during the night we have this horrendous nor'easter blow in. Hurricane force winds (gusts for now) and blowing snow and sleet. It's a miracle I could ]make the 50' to my office! LOL

And that's the news from the People's Republic of Cape Cod!

Foggy,
I commend you on your dedication to TRIGSTAR. I hope that more surveyors get involved in this. It is a good way to get "Surveying" in the brains of kids. They may not take it up as a career but they will at least remember the test for a while and maybe even your company name!

Joe

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Typing class 9th grade!

Two things about your vocabulary in that post.

1. "Y'all" is for us Texans and southerners. Has that crept up to New England, or did you make a recent trip to Texas? 😀

2. "Nor'Easter" was the subject of a joke by Jimmy Kimmel last night. I agree with him that; a) What's wrong with NORTHEASTER? Are we really saving anything by omitting two letters? b) Only ship captains from the 1800s should be allowed to use the term "Nor'Easter".

Strange day on Ol' Cape Cod, and a little TrigStar>GLENN

my mother was born and raised in Americus GA, and I went to the Univ. of Alabama, for few years anyway, before becoming licensed in TN as my first PLS in 1981. I feel that "y'all" has been a part of my vocabulary since I could talk.

Nor'easter is what it is, Northeaster is a person from Maine 🙂

Ah, that makes sense now, [sarcasm]although we consider Northeaster to mean both, since most people don't want them to stay around long. [/sarcasm] :-O

Foggy,
Cool to host the exam, we don't have such exams over here.
Congrats to the daughter, I do remember the pictures of the gps on the beach. I think I posted something back with my daughter and a GPS when I took here out surveying during the summer holidays, that's 6 or 7 years ago, time flies!

The snow pics should serve well as Christmas cards to me, looks lovely ... from a distance, we had no snow here and spring is early here this year. No complaints about that.

Christof.

Are all the women are strong, all the men good looking, and all the children above average?

Don Poole

Yes, you need to be commended for giving back to the profession,. They should give you some kind of award. 😉
Seriously, I know the time and expense that it takes to participate in the trig star program. I have known surveyors who have volunteered their time and money for the trig star here. I considered doing it at one time but had to walk away because of the sacrifice that it takes.

well done, Don! :good:

thank you Robert, Crimson Nape is enough award for me! LOL Actually my State Society did recognize me this as Surveyor of the Year at our convention. Many other worthy folks deserve it but this year they chose me.
