A call out to any folks going to Trimble Dimensions this year in Vegas? Like to meet GIS and Surveyors alike. Anyone from Alaska?
Good. I was hoping to see you there. Ahhhh...on the mini thing. Sure.
sent from Planet X.
I will be there as always (I have been to all of them going back to San Jose). I am presenting a session on Dam Deformations, look forward to attending a lot of good sessions and talking with fellow surveyors.
I am also going to the commercial UAV expo ( http://www.expouav.com/ ) the week before Dimensions, also in Las Vegas. I wish they would have made them the same week.
I'll be there. Most of my focus is on the concrete paving system, we are about ready to pull the trigger on one.
For the first time in 12 years I won't be making it; I'd love to go to the commercial UAV expo and Dimensions, but can't justify the expense right now. At least I don't have to endure the flights from New Orleans to Las Vegas... when I was in sales I started driving out, but last time I flew, flying commercial is something that I'm no longer interested in doing.
I am teaching a session on Tuesday Morning.
Ill Be there teaching a session on Tuesday Morning as well. We should organize a beerlegger.

Monday evening at the reception in the exhibit hall will be milling about....
Monday night it is then.
I am here! Excited to meet you all and see what's new.

Anyone seen anything that looks like new data collection hardware?
No, I asked around about a better tablet to go with the sx10 but you know how tight lipped Trimble is.
excellent sessions, but the substitution of the customary Wednesday night gala dinner with a "customer appreciation party" was a big disappointment.
I always enjoyed those dinner and shows at the end. They tried to spin the alternative as something great. It was not. Also, breakfast each day was lousy. Lunch was good. The keynotes were interesting as well.
I came away with a lot of good information. Gotta get lone of those SX10's, but they won't be shipping to customers until January, i was told.

That this was pretty awesome, I am torn if we should start scanning with one of these, or if we should jump head first into a TX8 scanner.

I think it depends on what kind of scanning you want to do. I have a TX8, it is a great instrument-fast, accurate, etc. The SX10 is a lot slower and not as dense, but certainly good enough for some projects and has a much longer range (600 meters I think).
For those of you that attended, how was the Venetian as a venue compared to the Mirage?
I liked it, no complaints about that. Even though I arrived on Sunday (and went to Valley of Fire) I waited until Monday AM to register, and there was a HUGE line then. I had misread the times for Monday AM. Sessions seemed to all go pretty well, but the keynotes each started a bit late.
Personal highlights:
Meeting the fellow TBC beta test team with Boris Skopjak and his group.
At the Blackjack table with Dru Smith (NGS). Gambling with Geodesy was a term bantered about.
The computer labs were awesome. Control code development, feature code libraries, and the GIS module courses were really well laid out given the short time frames. Here I was in a Trimble conference using ArcGIS. I was in heaven.
Meeting once again the XYHT team, and chatting about drones, and other leading edge topics with Gakstetter and others.
Party on Monday night was my favorite as we wandered around the booths and met folks from all over the world.
The mobile scheduler app worked okay to find the way thru concurrent courses. This trend works well, but your stuffed without a "smart phone" to get around the concurrent sessions.
Take away from a GIS perspective:
I want to see a Field to Finish next time - taking a Job File thru to a Drawing, and concurrent GIS formats. Much of training includes pieces of the overall workflow.
Being this far north above the equator and lack of wireless connectivity will continue to force Post process activities that continue to be swamped by realtime technologies. I'm okay with that, but this puts us out of the game with new products like Catalyst and Connect.
Carry on.

The Venetian was way easier to get to and navigate around than the Mirage in my opinion.
Venetian was excellent, much better accommodations than the Mirage. Did have a hard time navigating around, needed a map. Tv in the bathroom, phone by the toilet, and automatic window shades were mighty handy. Wife and I went Friday and 2 daughters w/boyfriends came Saturday so we had a vacation mixed in. Middle daughters birthday dinner Monday night at the Tau featuring wagyu beef, calamari, and saki was different. Rented a Navigator and made a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, went to the Mystere Cirque show, did some indoor go-cart racing, and the others hiked Red Rock Canyon while I was taking classes.
Wife had enough frequent flyer miles from work to get everybody's tickets for free. Ours were first class both ways. I'm not ever flying anywhere else unless it's first class.
As for Dimensions, the opening keynote was not what I expected. Featured an architect showing off some virtual reality stuff, pretty amazing, and I guess it's the future. Went to several classes, they were informative. I agree with whoever mentioned the Wednesday night function. I was expecting a dinner like last time, so we skipped lunch. Got there and found we were overdressed for a Daughtry concert with hot dogs. So we skipped it, played some blackjack, wife won enough to make up for what I lost.
Thanks to Sitech MidSouth for inviting a couple of us from work. Always nice for us rednecks to get away for a few days.
