I’ll be at Dimensions next week.  Taking any class on GIS, NSRS, Geodesy, and at Frontier Precision party Tuesday.  Might wear my NAD83 green t-shirt for the last time!

Have fun. I have not been in many years. Maybe I will plan to go next year.  I looked at the classes offered this year and a few struck my interest. But I just couldn’t swing it this year with all the work load.

Sadly, due to the current US visa requirements and the fees in particular, I wont be there...

@jimcox ? I believe you are from NZ (correct me if I am wrong). No visa required, just ESTA. But yeah, it is getting expensive

Not ESTA - visa required. That means a fee plus the associated costs of attending an embassy visit.

Also for me it would be work, so a business visa is required. Current fees for that are astronomical (Thanks Mr President).

Include airfares and accommodation, and it just aint going to happen.

@jimcox it might be for the best as the airports are under staffed and no body is getting a pay check either while our government is shutdown. I was thinking about going but glad I am not fighting all that mess this time.

True for sure.

Plus the States do not look at all like a friendly place I would want to visit right now

Which is a real shame - because that is not how I remember it being there as a kid

@jimcox

The remarkably swift shift in media due to the internet and now AI seems to show nearly all countries as much worse than they really are. During Covid, many media sources made NZ appear like East Germany blended with North Korea by highlighting some sort of mandated phone app, and that doesn't seem to be anymore correct than what you're likely seeing about the US right now.

My brother in law just took his wife and children through the big five national parks in Utah. While I'm sure there are many examples of NPs where the government shutdown lessened the experience, they all felt safe and had a great time and didn't miss out on any of their planned excursions.

The real world and people in general are much better than they appear on tv or the internet.

While we do have some isolated problems in some areas I personally have not encountered any issues at all yet. I am a fairly outgoing person just ask my kids. They say daddy how can you be pumping gas and meet someone and it’s like yall have known each other forever. I said well I just try and be nice because you never know what someone else is going through in their personal life. So why not just try and be courteous as often as you can. Now on a different it’s they have seen the other side of me. Some poor ladies car died and some rude people in a parking lot were giving her the what for. I drove and sorta used my F350 to bully my way through to get her jumped off and followed her to the part store to help get her battery checked. Thankfully that’s all it was and not the alternator. But my kids might have learned some colorful language that day. Some folks are just rude.
