After dealing w/ 12-15 cords per year for 25+ years I finally broke down and bought a wood splitter. It doesn't really split that much faster than a mall but I can split all day and barely work up a sweat. Seems to go through even the toughest yellow birch butt logs.
I bought my brother the same log splitter for a wedding present last summer. Wheeled it in to the reception...real crowd-pleaser.

A splitter would be a better gift for a divorce wouldn't it?;-)
It seemed like a good fear for $1K. I had planned on upgrading to the Honda motor but I couldn't justify $600 extra dollars. The reviews mentioned starting problems w/ the Briggs and Scrapiron but that little motor is about the easiest thing to start I've ever owned. Nice and quiet too.
I've never had a problem with B&S engines. Keep them dry so the magneto doesn't rust.
If you want a Honda engine, buy a used power washer at a garage sale. The darn pump won't work anyway so all you will get is a good engine.:pissed:
Stay away from the consumer models (GC), if you want Honda, buy a commercial series (GX), at least that is advice I got from a repair shop, the GC engines are a cheap throwaway with the Honda name to sell them.
I have a GX on my pressure washer, I wouldn't say it is exactly the easiest to start, YMMV.
BTW, a pressure washer has two important pieces, the motor and the pump, if you buy high end for each, it doesn't probably mean too much about the brand of the washer, they are just a parts assembling operation. I believe CAT piston pumps to be top of the line, ANY radial pump is only for play.

Wood splitters are great. Has been on my want list many years.
We gather our wood and bring it to the house. When the amount is enough I rent a splitter and bring it out in the morning and split all in one day to carry splitter back that afternoon.
Check out the supersplit one on youtube. I'm waiting for a good deal, on craigslist.

Perry,
Nice machine.
I am willing to bet one adult beverage that you cant get that truck more than about 37 feet from where it is without, at least, one of the split logs falling off.

and nice stacking job on the beater.
Bought a Honda Knock-Off from EBAY about 7 years ago. Put it on a rototiller. Usually starts first pull after sitting all winter. No problems whatsoever. 5.5 HP and under $200.00

OSHA wouldn't like that thing at all. I don't think I'd like to be the operator, either; it looks to be very unforgiving of even a momentary lapse in operator awareness.
