Venus - Astronomy Picture of the Day

Didn't get to see it here in NE Florida. After a bright, clear day, and after I had a transit set up to view it, it clouded up...about 10 minutes before it was supposed to begin. I'm not very happy about it...:pissed:

Excellent. Did you create that or steal it from somewhere? Trying to figure out who to not credit when I steal it. 😉
Damned Tribbles!
Of course it clouded up here in W PA:-(
We had a relatively clear, sunny day all day here in east central Iowa. Up until about 10 minutes before the show started. Then the clouds rolled in. It's a conspiracy.
Have to be content to watch online, I guess.
threw it together real fast after reading Tyler's post...
I felt the internet is about to be bombarded by Venus transition photos... wanted to spice up that little black circle of planet.
Of course I have made a feeble attempt at shooting the transition myself... no number 14 welders filter... just an amber beer bottle for filter ...
I didn't set up because of the clouds. Then we had about 3 minutes of sun. I ran out and looked, but decided it wasn't a big enough hole to last while I set up, and it went away soon.
We caught a quick glimpse right at the start. Then clouds till sunset.
The binocular-cardboard thing worked quite well.
No worries, I'll look for it next time. 😉
Does it ever make you feel funny that you are seeing something you know you can never see again?
Got lucky here. Was at my mom's house putting in her flower beds. Took my Topcon with the solar filter just in case the sun decided to peek through the clouds. Just as we were done with the flowers it did come out briefly. I got maybe 10 seconds view, my son got to see it maybe 20 seconds. Then the clouds rolled back in.
On the way back home I decided to give it another shot so we drove to a local cemetery with a good long range west view. We got another 10 to 15 seconds as the sun set below the clouds. Will post photos later. I got none of the sun, but a few nice ones of the Topcon and a rather nice sunset.

PS Later Edit. Here are photos as mentioned earlier.
Well, I guess all my cursing and griping had some effect. Around 7:30, the clouds cleared a little and we got maybe a half-hour of on-again-off-again visibility. It was enough that I got a good look and still had time to beat it over to my son's house with the binoculars and the filter so the granddaughters could get a short glimpse.
loved that gun
Here in Tucson, we used my DKM1 (from Jeff Opperman - thanks, Jeff) and projected the sun onto a white board - the way we used to do solars back in Ye Olden Days -
Not a great picture, but good enough -
LOL. Love it.
Well done gentlemen, well done.

Now that is really funny. You Orygun boys are a bunch of cards (but you can be dealt with)
