Last Friday my wife returned from a couple of weeks trekking in Nepal with a couple of childhood girlfriends. 100+ miles of hiking, culminating in a visit to Everest Base Camp at 18,192 feet (or thereabouts). They got their best view of the big mountain (below) from Gokyo Ri (17,575'), a peak about 15 miles away.
Peter and I had to stay home. 🙁
Hey...down in the lower left-hand corner...it that a Yeti taking a leak?
Seriously though, nice picture and what an adventure.

That view makes me reach for the oxygen...

That a big friggen rock...I wonder if it effects local Magnetic readings on a compass like McKinley does in some areas.
great pic. you should post her trip report here.
I doubt I'll ever try anything like that. I felt pretty lousy after hiking to 14,400' in colorado from lack of O2.
I thought about shipping my ex-wife to Nepal several times. You know, in one of those big boxes with a few airholes.
I'm with you buddy!
Sorry Jim - This was a very cool/picturesque post - got off track...
I don't know about magnetic issues, but its local mass certainly would effect the deflection of vertical and geoid modeling. It is very difficult to get this modeled correctly around the Denali massif...
Jim-
Congrats to your SWMBO.
Nice pics.
Now that she is all exercised and limbered up, how about taking off the first crop of the year at North Aboyne Farm ?
Yes, the joy of picking the first crop (stones) is somewhat unique, just as hiking is through the Himalayas !
Gloves provided !

I'm trying to imagine what people say to each other when they're standing in a spot like that, looking at an object/phenomena like that. I would guess probably not words but maybe primal noises of wonder and awe.
Amazing picture. Thanks.

That, and the sound of chattering teeth. It was cold!
