It's a high-pressure vessel for certain chemical processes- the top is intentionally designed as a projectile for theatrical effect when it lets loose.

Reminds me a bit of the thingamabob on the top of a pressure canner that serves as the relief valve. but, that's one bigasssss pressure cooker.

Looks like some type of suppressor that keeps flames from being thrown out in mass quantities.
We were out on a job in eastern Upshur County and at the end of a truck crop patch there was an overgrown patch of trees and privet hedge. When we rounded the hedge we found a 20ft diameter metal tank about 12ft high hidden in the shade with a hinged door. Was somebody's man cave/huntin cabin.

I would guess it is a ladel from somebody's melt shop, turned upside down. But I have never seen one come to a point like that.

I've looked at it several times and still don't have an opinion. Mining or smelting comes to mind. It appears to be some sort of pressure vessel. And it looks like there are some pipes entering and exiting on the side...but quien sabe?
With hardware that large it was hardly common to get "artsie" when casting six tons of iron. My guess is the point at the top (bottom?) is a functional item and the clue to its purpose.

That would make a bit of sense. I Googled the area and saw that the Powerdale dam was decommissioned a few years back. Lots of info on the several miles of large diameter pipe that fed the downstream powerhouse. Highspeed water flow would explain the need for the supersonic shape.
