I just had a call from a neighbor

Good, on you Andy. King snakes, and hog nose snakes are me buds. Gimme a good black chicken snake any day.

A rubber snake curled up around the top handle of the gun... When the iman opens the bag he will scream... Either when he sees it or when he touches it..

My 9 yr old taped that Animal Planet show last week on the invasive rock python from Africa in FL. We watched it together. Yikes...They had a 14 ft 138 lb one shown.
It was a good show if you catch it. Giant Man Eating Super Snakes.
Never been bit
Early in surveying while in the marsh/swamp area, I had stepped over a prtty good size cottonmouth unaware.
The guy who was following me in line and who was matching my footprints almost got bit. He stopped at the last moment. The snake was coiled and was about 4 inches from my boot print.
stuff happens fast...

Was bit once while holding a friends small boa. He turned slowly, opened his mouth and chomped down between the thumb and index finger. Not too painful, but hard to pry off due to rows of needle sharp teeth. My best friends sister was walking by the lake when she suddenly noticed an anaconda with his head up off the ground at her eye level only steps away. She tuned and ran screaming back down the path.

Does a Gardener Snake count? lol. I got bit by those little guys a lot as a kid. I guess catching them all Summer kind of peeved them off. Thank God I lived in an area with nonvenomous snakes as a kid.

Snake Bites - King Cobra

Snake presence is really a big concern in our place. We do have Cobras and the most dangerous is the King Cobra. It is aggressive and very poisonous.

I don't really have any idea on how to administer first aid to snake bites except going to a nearby hospital.

Any idea on your safety practices?

Thank you.

I've had quite a few bites from non-venomous snakes.
ALL in the hand. After a while I figured out that they don't like to be picked up.:-O

I DID get bit surveying, by a Puss Moth caterpillar (a type of saddleback).

I felt something prickly on my elbow, I looked down and I had been leaning on this little guy. No big deal, it kinda burns like a wasp sting.
On the way back to the office my arm started aching more and more. I knew something was wrong, I told them what happened and had to go home.

By the time I got home, my armpit was hurting real bad and I was doubled over in pain, I managed to open my front door and collapse inside. I laid there in the fetal position, wrenching in pain for about an hour when my wife came home. She took one look at me and said, Let's go to the emergency room!, without even asking what happened. I told her no, the worst was over I'm going to be alright. But I believe that was the closest I've come to dieing.

Puss Moth Caterpillar, (it took a while to live that one down, you can imagine the endless supply of jokes at my expense, from the crew)

Never Heard of Such a Thing

I swear you are making that up. No one would name a caterpillar such a name.

Never Heard of Such a Thing

Sure they would. It grows up to be a wimpy little moth that all the other moths pick on. Wait a minute.......I misread that..... there's no "y" on the end. Never mind.

Asp

I have been stung by an asp twice. The first time I never saw it and had no idea what it was. Someone educated me on asp later that day.

The second time was about a year later and I knew what to look for. I found it on the bottom side of a small limb. I stomped that thing almost to china.

I never heard them called a puss.

Asp

Been stung by an asp before also. Explaining how bad it hurts or how you got stung is kinda like explaining a bull nettle - how it stings or how bad it hurts can only be understood by someone who has experienced it. And heaven help them when that happens.
