Step one:?ÿ Which states have a city in their own state such as: Texas City, TX; Oklahoma City, OK; Kansas City, KS; Nebraska City, NE; Iowa City, IA?

Step two:?ÿ Which states have a city that sounds like it should be in a different state: Virginia City, NV: Michigan City, IN; Arkansas City, KS?

If we drop off the City part of the city name there are many examples.?ÿ I was thinking of New York City, NY but no New Hampshire City, NH (guessing).?ÿ Is there a Vermont City, VT??ÿ The ghost town of Delaware City, KS did exist.

Wyoming is in Michigan.?ÿ Kansas is in Oklahoma near the Arkansas border. Nevada (pronounced differently) is in Missouri.?ÿ?ÿ

There was a Denver, OK.?ÿ Now it lays at the bottom of a reservoir.?ÿ Nothing left but a cemetery and a gas station that bears the name.

One of the communities I work around frequently is Gotebo, OK.?ÿ It's pronounced GO'-te-BO'.?ÿ As far as I can tell it is the only Gotebo in the entire world.

As a side note, Gotebo is a good example of how temporary our marks and sticks are upon the earth.?ÿ Here's a photo of the grand opening of Wedel's Big Department Store in Gotebo about 100 years ago:

gotebo2

Here's the same building as it looked the other day:

gotebo

The prairie is really a hard place.?ÿ It's kind of fitting that a band called Kansas recorded the song "Dust in the Wind".

You probably wouldnƒ??t recognize Leesburg-Tavares-Mt.Dora area today. It is still beautiful but what were once thousands of acres of Orange groves are now thousands of acres of production housing. Only place to smell Orange blossoms today, other than your back yard, is on south SR27. ?????ÿ

Lots of towns were named for other places, either biblical, historical, or just a place someone immigrated from.

My hometown county has or had Warsaw, Harvard, Peoria, Bethlehem, and New York. The county seat Corydon was supposedly named for the judge's birthplace in Indiana. (Coincidentally, one of my relatives with that first name was there, so I wonder if he had an influence).

In adjacent counties are Derby, Cinncinnati, Iconium, and Moravia.

People get some states confused. A favorite t-shirt I once saw said "University of Idaho, Iowa City, Ohio".
