I have been quite interested in the Subaru BRZ & it's twin the Toyota 86. It strikes me as great little sports car and with the flat 4 engine it has gotten very good reviews.
The problem here is perception. I am thinking about taking one for a test drive and I do not even know if I can get it or out of it without making a bloody fool of myself. Arthritic knees, hips and hurt back may not allow for it.
But let's assume I can do it.
Would I be the laughing stock in that car. Would it be inappropriate for a mid 50s gray haired old fart to be seen in it? Is there a perception for those cars that only young kids can drive them?

I dunno...maybe, but who cares what other people think?
I would probably go the Miata MX-5 route if I was looking at a "sports car" in that price range, but that's just me.
I must admit however, I have been contemplating buying a new GT-350 for a while now, but I realize that by the time I drive it back from the dealership (I would buy it in Arizona), I would?ÿhave that "desire" out of my system, and be stuck with a new car that probably can't get into my driveway?ÿwithout doing damage to the air dam (or high centering in the gutter).?ÿ Oh, and I would have to clean out my garage too! OH OH, I would not be able to drive for about 4 months out of the year due to SNOW!
Oh well...

Naw, that BRZ is much better than the Miata.
And I could pick use one up with low miles for half price.
And the other one I'm liking is a Honda S2000. They are not made anymore but still lots of them available for fairly low prices.?ÿ
A GT-350 is a helluva car and would get me in a lot of trouble.

Here's how you'll get in:
Here's how you'll appear inside:
ok, well since nobody else can seem to be nice enough... here's a mockup of what you'll look like in whatever?ÿpeashoo, er, sports car you choose:
"yay!"
Here's an indication of the way things will look after combining a fast car with aging reflexes.
My brother had a brz, it was a quick car until he wrapped it around a tree. It was a sharp car except it was impossible to get in and out of. I think he now has the focus st. The focus will actually get to a 100 a lot quicker then the brz and even handles better. He said for about $2000 he could add another 100 hp and get it in line with the focus rs.
I have a Toyota 87 MR2 that was the fastest ptoduction car when made.
I was over 140mph when I backed off and never tried that again.
It will also turn left or right at 70mph an not go into a slide. Don't know what gforce that pulls buy if not ready it will put your passenger up against the window.

Be sure to get the heavily tinted windows all around. That's the only way to avoid being seen that way.?ÿ

I'm from the south, we do not say "yay". And I have a lot more gray hair.?ÿ
I would have a BRZ in a heartbeat as my daily, if I fit, which I don??t ?ÿ
When I was in high school my best friend's father owned a used car lot.?ÿ He always kept a few "hot" cars and a few almost new Cadillacs to get folks to stop in.?ÿ I used to drive some of the cars to the shop for oil changes, tune ups, etc.?ÿ The most fun car I ever drove was an E Type Jaguar.?ÿ There is no way I could get in one today though.
....?ÿIs there a perception for those cars that only young kids can drive them?
I don't think the target demographics are for "young kids".?ÿ Young kids nowadays don't buy fast cars and can't afford the insurance premiums.?ÿ They'd rather have one that drives itself and has wi-fi , an Alexa-style digital verbal interface and heated seats.?ÿ I'm pretty sure they some other target group in mind when they put this buggy on the market.
If you want one, grab it.?ÿ I use to run a '71 MGB in SCCA rallies and had a blast.?ÿ Nothing more fun that a light, rear wheel drive low-profile two-seater with ample horsepower.

I've had a roadster since my sophomore year in college
1979 Triumph Spitfire
1987 Alfa Romeo Spider
1998 Porsche Boxster (currently)
Really have a hankering for a restored TR-6 though - the Boxster has always had too much of a Germanic utilitarian feel

It was probably the timing when I came of age, but I have always had affection for British motorcycles and sports cars...Lucas electrics and all.?ÿ And I understand your "Germanic utilitarian" remark.
The only German vehicles I've ever owned were VW bugs.?ÿ There was plenty of 'that' influence in those cars.?ÿ Never wanted anything more complex?ÿfrom Germany.?ÿ I remember the heater knob in between the?ÿseats on?ÿmy '65?ÿbug.?ÿ Just a simple knob...clockwise closed the heater, ccw opened it up.?ÿ Sadly I took it apart one day.?ÿ It had 175 machined moving parts in it and 30' of small diameter steel cable.?ÿ Something 4" long filled a shoebox when disassembled.?ÿ It never got put back together.?ÿ I eventually robbed another one from a bone yard.
A TR-6 would be great and I have always loved the old Alpha Romeo's.?ÿ
I snapped this pic a couple of weeks ago a block from the Marietta Square after I noticed the license plate. It says FAKE356. I suppose it is a kit car but it was in great shape and I am sure the fella has a blast when it is not raining.
Had a Fiat X19 for a while. I could not get into it now. Fast little car 130 mph easy. Seats were so narrow that I only fit if I was driving.

There is an X1/9 in my garage right now.
They really are a small car.
The top of the roof is below the bottom of the windows of the Range Rover parked alongside.

Never had a sports car. Closest would be my mom's muscle car--'75 Cutlass Supreme with a 455 engine or the time I drove my friend's '71 ('72?) Roadrunner. I managed to spin it out on a rural Texas entrance ramp and get a speeding ticket on the same trip.
I've had 2 Honda Prelude Si. Currently drive a Honda Fit Sport which can beat out most cars on a start if the other drivers aren't paying attention/don't know the stoplight sequence.?ÿ ??ÿ
A friend has had an S2000 for many years. He really loves it.
I say if you like it and have the means, walk in there and buy one right off the showroom floor....
Who give a rats behind what other people think...
