The you will know whats up, my border collie left me here as of a couple days ago....damn I miss him to a painful degree, he was a class act, elegant, smart, forever loyal, and was the type that had friends all over, made them everywhere he went.

This one is gonna leave a permanent mark, I bet I will still feel the same way 30 years from now if I am still around.....sob

All I can think of is my mom saying "son nobody ever promised that life would be fair" this is definately not fair...

Sorry to hear that. Lost a great dog about 5 years ago, and I still get that lousy feeling in my stomach when I think of her.

We have a little guy at home who is now a senior. He always greets you at the door and wants to jump up and give those nasty dog kisses. I am not looking forward to the day he isn't there to greet me.

Never trust a man that doesn't like dogs.

Hmmmmm. we just got a Bassett Hound 12 weeks ago. He is the coolest thing around. My wife and I have bonded with him quickly. I know one day he will go so I just keep an attitude to enjoy everyday now....because one day will not be so joyfull. It's all in time.

Yes, I completely understand and sorry to hear of your loss.

My Mom and I picked out a "mutt" from a litter at a yard sale one day. She turned out to be the greatest friend I'd ever had at that point in my life and I still miss her dearly. She passed away in the late-90's.

Even though I moved out, my Mom kept her because I couldn't take her with me. When I visited, she would run down the driveway, but only make it halfway before she had to slow down to pee from excitement.

I understand.
My last pup was a German Shepherd (rescue boy) and before I had to put him down I decided to get a puppy hoping that it learn from him. Boris (the Shepherd) was a class act. The greatest disposition and handsome, plus he loved me as much as I loved him. The bumper sticker "I wish that I could be half the person my dog thinks I am" was created with Boris in mind.
The new pup and I have bonded, equally, but he didn't pick up on the amazing disposition, although he's another great dog! 😉

I know the feeling. Here's Maggie about 6 months ago.

Here she is just a few days ago.
She comes to work with me every day.

There is no therapy in the world quite like a puppy licking your face.

I look forward to having my ear nuzzled by my big little pug when I get back to Fort Worth tonight.

I'm on my 3rd border collie. The first one was smart and loved to work the cattle, 10% training and 90% instinct. The second was not as smart and never got the knack for cattle, but a lot of personality.

This one, Joy, I bought her as a pup last August. She is in the office, car, or job all of the time. She is by my side 98% of the day and seems to know what I'm thinking or what I'll do before I do. She's also has a pretty small build and is easy to carry through the briars when I have to cross thick stuff. I know I'll really miss her when she goes like the two before. I also know after a year of mourning, I'll get a new best friend.

Every border collie is different. I've never found a replacement for any of them. Each one is their own dog.

I even bought two goats for Joy. A surveyor buddy came by last week with his daughter. I said "Joy, show her your pet goats" and she herded the little girl out the door and across the field to their pen. Ten minutes later they were back. It's remarkable how smart these dogs are.

I feel that way about all my deceased dogs of the past 30 years: Sara(Shepard Mix), Juneau (Alaskan Malamute), and Brookie (Alaskan Malamute).

Agree.
I see the icons to the right of this message window but how does one go about posting a photo? I'm sure it is easy, especially once one knows how.

Sorry for your loss.
This is our family dog, Boogie. She is a Louisiana Catahoula.
A few months back we bought a new dishwasher, while I was installing it she took to playing in the box.
She will be seven years old next month and I am seeing a bit of gray in her face.
My father has one also that is getting close to fourteen years old, we have taken to calling her Granny.

I guess it did.
That's my boy. He is 10 but running 30-40 miles a week with me has kept him healthy and puppy like. Not looking forward to the day.....

Feel the same way,

Here is my newest best friend.

Bullet is 2 years old but is my bud.

I have buried several big dogs that were my friends as well, but went to the little guys a few years ago.

I totally understand where you are coming from, Boundary!! Hugs

Here is our hound, Taco. Wendell's 2002 birthday present. He wanted a dog for his birthday and so we went to the humane society to pick out a doggy. There was 100s of dogs there, barking, howling etc... We walk by this one dog and she is just looking at us as if to say "Hi! Can I go home with you?" For some odd reason she was the only one not barking or making racket. Wendell took one look at her and goes "I want HER." So we took her out for a walk and it was like they were meant to be together; it was so cute to watch!

We tell the worker we want her, make the proper arrangements, etc... and she goes "Oh thank God for you guys! Tonight was her LAST night!" Turns out her time was up there at the shelter and had she not found a home THAT day she was going to be put to sleep. They had kept her over their usual time limit because she was nursing a foster litter of puppies and the pups were now weaned. We went back to get her paper slip off the cage and sure enough her "pink slip" was there. (They put "pink slips" on the dogs cages that were going to doggy heaven that night.) It was meant to be. I  my doogie, puppis, woofington, Sissa, etc... damn dog has more nicknames than a comedian.

Wendells cartoon version of Taco.

Taco when we first got her. She was so skinny!!

She gave the baby rats rides.

Doggy sleeping with the ratties.

Taco recently.
