@stacy-carroll Now if that was a recent picture. Why in the world did they not have lunch. In that GA heat in Oconee they could have fried that sucker on the street. A little cajun seasoning and we could have had a feast.

@peter-lothian?ÿ

I think I remember discovering very quickly that the trick does not work for yellow jackets.... Walking heavily and cutting brush loudly only makes them more ticked off

@stacy-carroll I was just reminded of that on Thursday as I was hit 9 to 10 times by those mean suckers. Twice on the face on my neck and head. And under the arm pit. I still look like i am going through puberty again on the side of my face. Problem was once they lit me up cutting line I ran towards the instrument and they followed.

Snakes that would chase you back home. Blue racers not venomous but a fun game to play as a kid. And then the spreadouter. Non venomous but we called it the Mississippi cobra because it could flatten its head like a cobra. Then the cotton mouth moccasin venomous and stunk to high heaven. King snake very territorial but we always had to catch them and place in hay loft and corn crib to keep mice and rats out. They would strike you pretty well but harmless.

Also moccasins on a night of frog gigging would come to the light. Once down from the river saw a whole pile of them all tangled together. I thought it was a log till we got close. Floating all balled up together. ?ÿ

Heat 2 inches of oil in a medium pan until it reaches 375 degrees F. Then dredge the rattlesnake pieces in the flour. Cook the rattlesnake in the oil in batches to not overcrowd the pan. Cook 2 to 3 minutes or until the pieces are golden brown.
?ÿ
Does snake meat taste like chicken? No less an authority than the New York Times looked at whether one type of snake tastes like chicken and said, "In fact, rattlesnake tastes, at least when breaded and fried, like a sinewy, half-starved tilapia."

@nate-the-surveyor?ÿ

One hot Labor Day weekend years ago I promised the boys we would haul the boat to the lake and go camping.?ÿ I worked a half day on Friday, got off at noon, threw all the junk in the boat and took off for a three hour drive to the landing and campsite near New Prue.?ÿ Almost got in a fist fight over a campsite and finally dropped the boat in the water as the sun was getting low.?ÿ I was starved.?ÿ When I got back to the campsite my two boys had cornered a large rattlesnake...and with a little machete work we had a dead rattlesnake.

I had actually started trying to skin him but actually just wound up making a mess and 'cleaning' the meat.?ÿ I soaked the meat in the ice chest while I heated some butter in a skillet over the Coleman.?ÿ After I browned the meat I chunked in 2 cans of Ranch Style Beans.?ÿ Served with warm flour tortillas that was the bestus snake dinner I have ever had!

The 4 tallboys it took to wash it downed helped a lot also..?ÿ

Meanest snake I've ever encountered (besides SWMBO, oh jesus that was a mistake) is a garter snake, they start striking/biting the second they see you. ?????ÿ

Garter snakes were the only kind we'd ever see in North Dakota.?ÿ My brother, cousins, and I would try to catch them if we spotted one.?ÿ Normally we'd chase it and try to step on the tail and then pin the body down until we could get a grip by the head.?ÿ Anyway, I have a few amusing (imo) stories about them:

I was walking around with a pellet gun looking for black birds to shoot when I heard one of the weirdest sounds ever coming from some nearby grass.?ÿ I kicked around in it and here there was a garter snake trying to eat a frog.?ÿ I had no idea a frog could do a whilhelm yell or death scream or whatever it was doing, but... I do now.?ÿ The snake let go when it saw me and both ran off.

I was standing on the shore of a river fishing when I spotted what ended up being a baby garter snake trying to get by me.?ÿ It was maybe 6 inches long so I just grabbed it in the middle of its body and held it up for a closer look.?ÿ It sat still for a moment and then in cartoonishly slow fashion it opened its mouth and then slowly bent the top half of its body into a U shape and did its best to plant a bite on one of my fingers holding it.?ÿ It either had no teeth or if it did they weren't big enough to even be detectable.?ÿ I just laughed and was like you got balls, snake, and I can appreciate that.?ÿ I let that one go.

Like I say we used to catch the things and every time we did find one they were maybe 12-18 inches long is all, so I just assumed this was all the bigger these snakes got... until...

My cousins and I spotted the tail of one disappearing into some grass near a tree trunk.?ÿ I lunged that direction and managed to pin the tail.?ÿ As I was pushing the grass aside I could tell it had turned beside the tree and was trying to escape behind it because it was gripping on something.?ÿ Sure enough when I saw the snake's body flexed against the tree it was probably as wide as a dollar coin.?ÿ Seeing how big this one was I immediately took my foot off the tail and ran like hell the other direction.

I haven't seen one since.

@flga-2-2?ÿ

I've seen it for real, I've been at a hole in the ground with a big ball of rattle snakes rising up out of the hole, slowly sinking back into it and then rising up,,,,,,,,,,,,looking at me with a dozen heads.......not something you'll ever forget. And snakes under each sage bush lining the little point the hole was topping. Rattles going off all around.?ÿ

Saw a clip on Facebook of a two-year old playing fetch with his dog in the back yard.?ÿ Kid reaches down to grab a big stick to throw.?ÿ Turns out it doesn't throw worth a darn.?ÿ Dad rushes to the rescue.?ÿ It was a black snake maybe six feet long.
