Another State of ours is getting pummeled today. Never been to Hawaii but I will one day.?ÿ
I don't think I recall anyone posting here from Hawaii. If we do have any fellow BeerLeggers stay safe, you will be very busy soon! Oh and if you need to hire out some temporary assistance in the aftermath I will gladly accept a working vacation opportunity. Our Mobile LiDAR unit can map a lot of area rather quickly...
Report from my son who now lives on the big Island, his house weathered it all well, Mona Kea and Mona Loa did what they always seem to do and funnel the rains to the?ÿwet side of the Island, his house only got maybe 1/2" which is a big rain for the dry side. From what I've seen surveying isn't for the faint of heart on the Islands.
There is a surveyor who often posted here, I believe he was based on Kauai and I wishing him well, hoping the hurricane stays south like most of the paths predict.

Visited him a several years ago at the monastery in Kauai. The man is a gem. I hope they make it unscathed. While?ÿI don't think the?ÿmonastery isn't in any danger of flooding, it has many large trees. The island was hammered by floods not long ago.
I have worked on both Maui and Oahu, and visited one other island. Not easy doing mapping there, there are few cloudless days.?ÿ
And you have to get the plane and imaging equipment out there...makes the survey part look easy
??Visited him a several years ago at the monastery in Kauai. The man is a gem."
Lucky you, I??ve been to Kauai 3 times and didn??t even know the Monastery existed until Yaswami joined. After corresponding with him about the beauty of Kauai and my desire to see the Monastery he invited me and SWMBO on a personal tour of the Monastery next time we were there. Great Guy with extreme discipline and knowledge. According to the Weather Channel it looks like Yaswami et. al. have shooed the hurricane away.?ÿ ??ÿ
We're going to see Swami on Kauai in November for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. ??ÿ
I will be bringing him and his fellow Monk friends some much requested dark chocolate. ??ÿ
In the meantime, here's a fine photo of our visit to Maui in July 2012. ??ÿ
I was going to complain about my first trip to Hawaii on a work project but reconsidered. After all, a long hard day's work in Hawaii sure beats a short light day most other places.
Last trip to Oahu (in June) pretty much rid me of any desire to move there.?ÿ ?ÿ
Yes, they will be busy. It took about 2 months for St. John to recover enough for anyone to even think about surveying, but I have had a?ÿbacklog ever since. At first I thought surveying would be easier as I can see everything with so few trees. But getting there through the debris from trees and houses is slow going. The hardest part is working among people's destroyed houses, cars, solar panels by the hundreds, children's toys, photo albums, etc., etc.
What my island looked like almost a year ago:
I haven't seen a post from Swami for quite a while. We miss him.

yes
Message him. He will respond. ??ÿ
I live on Maui.?ÿ
We did not get much wind and rain where I stay, but other parts of Maui had some landslides cross the road and a road or two got washed out.
Seems the strangest thing that happened was a 2000 acre fire in Lahaina during the hurricane, which?ÿ did more damage.
Aloha MightMoe: I was me! ?
Been busy with six artisan working with our temple construction...I miss you guys a lot. My Beerleg family always remembers me even when I don't show up here!!?ÿ
Lane didnt do anything severe to us...just tons of rain. But nothing like what they got on the Big Island. Glad your son is okay!
Aloha, Williwaw:?ÿ
Thank you for the good thoughts and the kind words! I have fond memory of your visit. Hopefully, you will visit again when it gets too chilly over there?

Aloha Bill (FL/GA PLS.)
Thank you for the dark chocolates! It is a standing invitation for you and your family. This applies to everyone at RPLS.com if you visit Kauai...just send me text or email. You will get a private tour of the monastery! I promise, I will not ask surveying question...well may one or two questions!?
We are lucky Bill just some extra rain! Aloha

Aloha Yswami, I would have mentioned you by name but I didn't want to butcher the spelling ?
Glad you are doing well, my son is also. Lane didn't?ÿdo much where they live. They seem to be really enjoying living there, they have even picked up a stray rooster.
The rooster?ÿshowed up just as they moved in. Then a few months later he found a hen, almost the same time as Lane hit the island. No one in the neighborhood is wanting to claim them so I guess they have them for now. They named the rooster Putin. So it's Putin and Mrs. Putin.

Aloha, MigthyMoe:
Wild chicken are big issue on Kauai. Maybe we should make them the state bird! ??ÿ ?
Btw, if your son ever makes a visit to Kauai just text me.
Have a great weekend everyone! Aloha
