Cripes I went to Costco today and you would have thunk they were giving everything away. The parking lot was full before they opened. People were hauling water and toilet tissue out of there by the cart full.
I said the hell with this and bought our Sat. nite rib-eyes at Publix, and that was packed with people also. I really can??t see someone or family going through as much as they are buying. I suppose the Covid-19 panic is setting in. God only knows what we??re in store for but I hope it??s nothing as severe as it's made out to be.
I went to Costco a week or so ago and did our bi-monthly shopping.?ÿ I did stock up on ground beef and pork chops (they were on sale).?ÿ I've got a couple of freezers so I buy in bulk and split it into smaller packages.?ÿ People were stocking up on water and toilet paper there too.?ÿ I figure if it gets to the point where our water treatment plants and supply stop a case or two of bottled water ain't going to do me much good.?ÿ I didn't even look for hand soap and disinfectant but I'll bet those were sold out.

Don't people listen to the news? Spread of the virus has been inevitable for weeks. Stocking up should have started with the first case outside China, if not before.
And you don't even live in Seattle!?ÿ
People up here are going nuts! I'm sitting on my case of toilet paper, with a shotgun, just in case!
????
Smokes ~ 2 weeks
Coffee ~ 1 month
Toilet Paper ~ 1 month
Food ~ several months (easy).
I guess that I should either swing by the smoke shop Monday...or maybe this is my chance to QUIT (again).
🙂
If you stand outside of a Costco any day of the year you will see EVERYBODY buys toilet paper by the cartful.
yeah. Putting up a large display at the entrance to Costco with a bunch of copies of Stephen King's - The Stand, would be the perfect touch for these virus loons.
Sorry.?ÿ Don't shop at any big box stores.?ÿ Don't plan to start.
I'm a little guy.?ÿ I do my best to spend my money with other little guys.?ÿ Obviously, that gets to be more challenging every year.?ÿ Dammit!
@flga
Time to move. Take that pile of retirement money and invest it somewhere productive. You don't have to go all "Green Acres" on us, though.
I ain't moving so much as a quarter mile any further towards the North Pole. Waaaaay too cold. Hell it's plunging into the 60's tonight.
Only kind of farming I did (years ago fyi) was illegal and the electric bill was a fortune. ????
Ran to Piggly Wiggly this morning, stayed away from Costco.?ÿ All the pictures on the news of empty store shelves had me rattled.?ÿ I'm here to report everything is copacetic in Okie-Homie.?ÿ I didn't see any fist fights over butt-wipe.?ÿ I loaded up on Postum and Prince Albert. They were out of my favorite cheese but that happens from time to time anyway.?ÿ
Only saw one person wearing a mask.?ÿ The rest of us are 'all in' betting on our immune systems and the good Lord above. ;)?ÿ
@flga
There you go. Missouri is hankering to grow their new legalized "grow" industry. With a skill set like that, you would be a natural. You would need to learn to wear long pants nine months out of the year, though.
Was in the local grocery store earlier today.?ÿ The only thing that was out of stock was dried plums in the little resealable package.?ÿ Not sure what that is indicating relative to a "run" on supplies.
During a visit to Ukraine back in 2001, I was "introduced" USSR style Toilet Paper, which was in effect... cr?¦pe paper. It was light brown, light weight, and would "stretch" a lot (lengthwise). It felt a bit like overused 200 grit sandpaper, but it got the job done. It was however a step ABOVE a page out of the Sears Catalog.
Makes the CHEAP stuff here feel like silk!
🙂
@loyal - I call that John Wayne toilet paper - "Rough, Tough and Don't take sh!t off Anyone"
Visited Costco, Home Depot, and the local supermarket this weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of busy. The shelves that formerly held hand sanitizer were empty.?ÿ That's about it.?ÿ
Funny, I remember reading stuff, prior to this virus panic, that said that hand sanitizer was only sort of-kind of-maybe effective and that actual hand washing was far more effective. .?ÿ
Vancouver, B.C. is going nuts. Before we headed back to the states, I went to a Canada Walmart.
I stopped in to get the kitty cat toilet paper, kitty cat kleenex, and some candy. ( I like the kitty cat stuff!)
When I first got into Walmart, it was calm. And then...all of a sudden, it turned into a madhouse.
Shelves were being cleared of products.
People were fighting over canned goods and rice. There was no hand sanitizer left. No eye drop products. No first aid kits. I decided I better leave before things got worse.
It was bad enough watching the people coming out of the Costco next door to the Walmart with carts full of toilet paper, tissues, Clorox wipes, rice, canned stuff, etc...
The line with cars is going into Costco was also insane.
Then, the Canadians in line with me at Walmart were pissed off at me and calling me names. "Jesus C*****! F*****g American!!" Dirty looks.
Then, I had to show my drivers license to the clerk.
She wanted to know what I was doing in Canada and when I was leaving. I said "As soon as I leave this store." And Wendell and I went straight from that Walmart to the USA Border and got home about 7 hours later.
But, even here in Salem it's pretty much the same thing. Also in Portland, Seattle, etc... Guess people will have T.P. for years at this rate. ????
I had to include the "Fat-Cat Fish" truck. Thought it was great and made me smile. 🙂
