Was driving a rental car back to drop it off with my son.
I needed to fill it up cause I didn't buy the tank of gas.
As I pull into the station I mentioned I didn't know which side the tank was on.

My son says, "look at the arrow".

I say, "what arrow?"

he gives me the eye roll, "all cars have an arrow indicating which side of the car the fill is on, it's shows on the gas gauge"

Look down and see the arrow, "huh, never knew that"

"Dad, everybody knows that"............

I don't think any of my cars prior to 2001 had the arrow.

Here's a pic of a 1999 Ford Taurus fuel gauge:

For all you 'old' people out there....this was seventeen years ago. Back during the first few years they actually had the words "FUEL DOOR" by the arrow. After three or four years they dropped the words and figured people had caught on.

Yeah, I know, makes me feel old too.

I've been told that VWs have it on the right side, so that if you have to fill it from a 5 gallon gas can on the side of the road, you will be away from traffic.

Subarus also have the gas filler on the passenger side of the car.

My Toyotas had the filler on the drivers side.

At least one of my GM cars had the filler nested behind the rear license plate.

Anybody remember where the gas cap was on a '56 Chevy sedan?

Ok, so I just "cheated". Glanced at a Google image or two: gas cap behind the left tail light.

Ya all kids think they know everything...The eye roll is ok, but an eye roll with a head shake is just down right disrespectful.

No indication on my gauges which side of the car the fuel door is.
Never heard of having an arrow, or at least never noticed it.

Yours is on the driver's side gold digger. I learned this lesson from my wife many years ago.

We rented a Kia (I think, it was a smaller brand, smaller car, and we was tired) after a mechanical failure left us stranded 250 miles from home about 2 months ago. Pulled in to get fuel, looked for the arrow on the gauge, and... No arrow! Had a 50/50 shot, guessed drivers side and got it right, but was first newer car I had seen without an arrow in quite a while. FWIW, I am against new cars and all their gadgets 😡

Now I'm going have to look to see if we have an arrow on any vehicle we own. Have never noticed such a thing. All fill on the driver's side.

I do remember the 56-57 filler cap behind the left tail light but only because a fellow dating my sister in the mid 60's had one and actually ran out of fuel in our driveway one night. Dad thought he really should go the three miles home so he gave him about a half gallon of gas from our supply.

I own one pickup, but haven't driven it in years, that has a filler cap on both sides. Have another one like that but have had it in the shop since I bought it so haven't had the filling experience yet.

Most fuel doors have a clip to hold the gas cap. 😎
