I wore a pair of Hi Tech boots for about 3 yrs one time. Best boot so far. Well, I just destroyed another Wal mart pair of boots, and I think I will go looking for another hi tech pair.
One thing I want is a flexible sole, so that my foot can flex. I get sore with too stiff of a sole.
My wife complains that I have too many shoes/boots. My clothset is sort of a junk yard for boots. I destroy one of a pair, set aside the good one, and use it with the next good boot, as they usually only last about 3 months.
I'm tired of it.
Nobody around here sells Hi Techs, so it is probably internet, and send them back if they don't fit.
I wear 13WWWW.
So, I am near the end of the gene pool, for sizes!

My favorite ever were a pair of 8.5 EE sized Columbia's that I happened to stumble across on sale at the local Super Shoes. I literally wore the soles off of those boots. I had to throw them away DURING a lot/fence survey I was doing in another county and put on my trailwalkers to finish... glad they were in the chariot.
My other favorites were a pair of 8EE or 8.5EE L.L.Beans. Bean doesn't seem to make many hiking/work boots anymore, so I've started widening my options as to what pair I might purchase next. I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for a good pair of boots. My bedroom/closet is like yours, a boot graveyard full of tossaways and completely worn out, and hoping that they will morph back into useful work boots... that is forever the dream.
Nate, you might look into New Balance, they make some odd sizes. Rockport also, but watch out... the Rockports are comfy, but can be heavy as bricks.
Good luck!!

wow Nate. 13 WWWW
that evolution is a b!%(@ 😉
If you don't mind paying the price, White's has a huge size selection and can even custom build a last for an unusually shaped/sized foot and they are supposed to be the absolute best for comfort and durability. They also have the bonus of being completely rebuildable so in theory, you would only need to buy the one pair ever. I will probably get my first pair soon but have been looking at them for a decade, while going through many pairs of more moderately priced footwear. Their catalog comes with a special sizing/measuring foldout that you use to measure each foot in a dozen places and ways, you send them those details and they pick out a last that fits your foot. Price range is $3-500 which isn't bad for a lifetime of wear.
I just switched to Merrell's Hikers from a traditional boot. I have been very happy with them.
I have gotten hooked on Ariat boots. I have even started wearing safety toe boots since they came out with the composite toe. The steel toe messed with the metal detector too much.

Oh, one other thing. I get the "Waterproof" boots. I can't tell any difference in the leather but the waterproof boots have a lining that keeps the water from soaking thru to your foot. I think it's gore-tex or something like that. It also helps keep your feet warm during the winter.
Timberland seems to work best for me for fit and comfort.
Big fan of Whites. I would suggest that you go to a dealer if at all possible. Sizes in Whites will run quite a bit smaller than you're used to. Takes a while to get them and break them in but they are so comfortable once you do.
Why not go to their website and buy direct?

I always love the ALTAMA mil spec jungle boot. light and comfortable, drains well when you are in wet conditions. Best part is that there is some kind of compression thingy (technical term) built into the sole that flexes when you walk and springs back. You don't actually feel it, but at the end of a long day it really makes a difference.

Until they did like Ariat and start building their boots in China, I used to wear (for nearly 20 years) Farm & Ranch boots with a very soft insole they called a "Comfort Core". Very comfortable for long days.
I have since switched to Double H boots. They are still made in America.B-)
Also wear White's, current pair new in 1990. Three rebuilds, but they are getting a little long in the tooth now, new pair next time. I have been to the factory a few times, like being in a candy shop 🙂
They are especially a good boot if you need something outside of the norm and sounds like you do.
Light and flexible soles they are not, heavy, comfortable, long lasting they are. All handmade in Spokane, although I think some of their lower lines are now made in China.
Expensive, maybe, depends on how you look at it, all in including the rebuilds, I am about $50 a year for these boots, not bad for a custom boot that has good support and comfort.

Used to wear Die Hards all the time, great return policy, didn't buy a new pair for 5 yrs. Couldn't find any I liked so I tried Red Wings. Didn't like them so I tried Wolverines. The pair I had fell apart in 3 months (probably my fault) so I started buying the cheap K-Mart boots that I'd get 6 months out of. 10 years ago I tried Rockies. Love them. Still got the first winter boots, only wear them 3 months out of the year most time. You have to watch them though, they've got a few boots that are made over seas and don't seem to last as long. I stop down at their Nelsonville Ohio outlet store every 2-3 years and pick up new summer boots. My brother's been getting them every year for I don't know how long and loves them. He works for a big survey outfit that gives the field guys $100 for boots every year so he doesn't let his get wore out as much as I do.
"I wear 13WWWW."
Cripes! THAT explains all them young'uns 😉
I like these boots....
Y'all have a great week! B-)
Me too!
The most comfortable boot I've worn to date.
Favorite Boots-Were they made fo walking?

The 'high cut' kind with speed laces and Dr. Scholls inserts are my favourites.
Cheers,
