ok - i am not one of the computer guru's - bought a HP laptop about 3 years ago for home personal use - get online, pay bills, store pictures, ect. nothing fancy.
kids must have spilled something on the keyboard - suddenly only about 5 keys work.
I was told i could simply plug in a separate keyboard (HP) into a port. Did that..
If I type "surveyor connect" in a search box or try to google anything, what shows up is "royevurs tcennoc" - is that stupid or what - is the laptop keyboard and the plug in keyboard i bought conflicting with one another -

here at work, we all work off laptops - typing on a plug-in keyboard right now. -
what is going on?? tahw si gniog no??

Possibly a virus or malware.

For antivirus, I use Avast!

For preventing malware, I use SpyBot ("immunize" feature).

For removing malware, I use MalwareBytes.

For firewall (XP), I recommend PC Tools Firewall Plus.

Other recommendations can be found on my website.

Before running any scans or immunization processes, make sure the software you are using is fully updated.

You may need to boot in Safe Mode in order to perform the scans or install/update your software.

You have several options.

1. You may be able to get a new replacement keyboard from hp and install it yourself. I assume the warranty has expired. Dell has instructions for disassembly of their laptops - hp may also (maybe not).

2. See if a keyboard for your model is available on ebay. Do it yourself.

3. If no keyboard is available, and you can disassemble the computer and remove the keyboard assembly, you can probably wash it in clean water, preferably distilled, let it thoroughly dry in a warm (not hot) dry place for a long time, and see if that helps. I understand that rice works well as a desiccant but you don't want to get rice dust in the keyboard.

4. Pay hp.

It may be more than just the keyboard you have to clean as liquids tend to wander.

Good luck.

PS: try a different plug-in keyboard. It definitely shouldn't be typing backwards. How did you type your post on BeerLeg?

You are on the wrong side of the desk. It's obvious.

Back in the days of DOS, there were little "prank programs" you could run on co-workers.

That was one of them, BACKWARDS.COM

I wonder if your "Left Arrow" key is stuck down? But that would probably make it say "tcennoc royevurs"

Ragoodwin,
I had a similar issue once with a laptop. My keyboard was worn out so I replaced it. After I replaced it only a few keys worked. Turns out I had it in a mode used for doing 10 key. I don't recall how I fixed it but it was a few key strokes. Maybe the function key plus something else.
