Go.

edit:

Had four crowns done last summer under anesthesia.

Scheduled to have four more done July 23.

One tooth is flaring up in pain more and more.

Tried one antibiotic and ended up in the ER after passing out twice (terrifying experiencing the mind reboot). ?ÿTried another antibiotic and quit after my throat started closing.

Did not suffer much tooth pain during that time. ?ÿNow that I have quit the antibiotics am back to the pain.

Thanks for listening. ?ÿWill appreciate hearing your stories and experiences.

Never got crowns, but had wisdom teeth pulled back in college. They wound up finding cancer in my mouth resulting in years of interesting experiences involving knives and things in the mouth you don't want cut. Pain (within the intimate confines of the head) can be a bit of a cleansing, meditative experience when you don't have any other choice. I'm not saying "tough it out", but look for the lesson.?ÿ

According to a recent episode of Big Valley on Grit TV the solution is to get yourself into a bare knuckles boxing match against a really good opponent.

@holy-cow

Now that's a solution. We can talk all day, but your solution has effect! I believe that falls into the category of the ringing of an alarm...

A few years ago I broke a tooth just a few days before we were supposed to leave for Trimble Dimensions.?ÿ My dentist couldn't get to it to fix it, but my wife's could, so I went to him.?ÿ He had Sedation Dentistry, so I took him up on it.?ÿ A few days later when I was packing to leave, I found some pants and shirts in my closet that didn't look like something I would have bought.?ÿ Asked my wife where they came from, and she reminded me we had stopped by the mall after the dentist, and apparently I added to my wardrobe.?ÿ I only have a vague recollection of being there.?ÿ Now she is waiting for the next time so she can do the buying, since I wont remember it.

Ironically I just got back from the Endodontist (sp?).?ÿ I had a root canal two weeks ago when he packed the canals with an antibiotic.?ÿ Today he cleaned it all out and put in a temporary filling.?ÿ Now I get to go see my regular dentist for a permanent crown.?ÿ When Xraying the tooth he found the tooth behind is "broken" below the gum line and will need to be removed.?ÿ Now I get to explore the cost of an implant.

I've had more dental procedures than I care to remember, and they run the gamut from fillings (too many to count) to crowns (too many to count) to wisdom tooth extractions (4) to implants (3) to bridge (1) to root canal (1).?ÿ Yet aside from the intense but short-lived pain that comes with the injections required to anesthetize the upper front nerves (it feels like that needle is going to come out through your nose), I've never had any trouble with pain management, and I've never had to fill the prescriptions for Norco (hydrocodone plus acetaminophen, as I recall) that the doc always thinks I'll need.?ÿ 600 mg of ibuprofen once or twice has always done the job for me.

A couple of the most helpful dental changes I've made are:

Get a couple cleanings done a year.?ÿ For a long time this was a luxury I didn't think I could afford, but once I started making 'adult money' I started making these trips part of my routine.?ÿ Less tooth problems overall and it's not even particularly expensive-- I have no dental insurance and I pay them $65-70 out of my HSA.

Signed up for that invisalign stuff a few years ago.?ÿ My teeth weren't particularly messed up but I had HSA money burning a hole in my pocket so I decided to try it out.?ÿ $4500 and it fixed whatever misalignments I had, but even more importantly it showed me how crooked teeth and tooth sensitivity can go hand-in-hand.?ÿ Hot/cold sensitivity completely went away and the teeth are easier to clean since floss (or in my case a waterpik because I cannot stand floss) gets in between them easier which naturally leads to less problems.

I realize I'm late here, but why did you need antibiotics for a crown? They usually just grind what's left of the misfortunate tooth, glue something over the stump that resembles a tooth, charge you $1500 and give you a toothbrush and 3.5" of floss in a container that will hold 3500'. ?????ÿ
