This could have gone in "Sports", since there isn't a "Travel" category.
Anyway, this year's trip will be to SEATTLE. Trip will be at the end of June. Obviously, the stadium tour, Space Needle, waterfront, Boeing, etc., are part of the itinerary. But we are wondering about hotels.
We would like to avoid renting a car, so the plan is to stay in the city, so I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has ideas regarding lodging in town.
We're not interested in spending a fortune, but we'd like to stay above the budget level. In some of the other cities we've been, the Kimpton chain has been great, but our travel partners aren't crazy about the "pet-friendly" policy (what can I say?).
Interesting, historical, boutique....???
Thanks in advance.....
The Edgewater Inn is where the Beatles stayed and fished out of their window. I've never been there, but they tell me it's nice. It's about 2 miles to the stadium, so it might be too much of a walk. But you are right on the waterfront and close to Pike Place Market. You could walk up to the first Starbucks for your morning coffee...;-)
The NPS has a nice little museum on 2nd and Jackson, The Klondike Gold Rush Seattle unit. Grant Brady ans his beautiful wife Cathy were there when they were here on vacation and had a great time.
We should get together a Beerleg gathering, I'm sure we could talk Wendell and Angel, and maybe a few others, into coming up from Oregon too. The Crab Pot is a great place to eat and has a nice venue.

"not spending a fortune" is pretty subjective, but the last time I was in Seattle I stayed here
> The Edgewater Inn is where the Beatles stayed and fished out of their window. I've never been there, but they tell me it's nice.
Beatles huh? Are you sure it wasn't Joe Walsh?
Good advice Dugger. The Edgewater is right next to the Bell Street Diner (Anthony's downstairs). Isn't there a trolly/train that runs along Elliot Bay down to the stadium? I'm thinking we need a beerleg event at Ray's Boathouse right?
Doug
"Beatles play at the Seattle Center Coliseum on August 21, 1964.
HistoryLink.org Essay 5435 ......
The Beatles waited an hour before leaving the Coliseum in the rear of an ambulance that returned them to the heavily guarded Edgewater Inn on the waterfront."
> I'm thinking we need a beerleg event at Ray's Boathouse right?
You bet!! If we get enough people, we might even be able to get some CEU's...;-)

LOL @ James.
"So I got me an office, gold records on the wall.
Just leave a message, maybe I'll call."

Your joke :
Fell kind of flat.....
Can't say much about downtown lodging, we stayed near the airport, but if you can squeeze it in we found the underground tour to be very informative and entertaining. Plan the better part of an entire day for Boeing, and a camera with high film speed, and maybe a lightweigth tripod or even a monopod for stability.
Most of all - have fun!

COOL!!
I wanna see ya!! Maybe we can arrange a BeerlegFest up there while your in town!! 😀
As for hotels...what is your budget, what amenities would you like, etc...? Let me know and I will look for you for the best deal in downtown or close to it so you do not have to do much walking. Wendell and I stayed there in 2009, right by the space needle, at the Quality Inn. At the time it was the best value for the $$, plus it had free underground parking!! A rarity in them parts. We walked to the monorail and rode it into downtown, or we'd walk 2 blocks and hop on the bus.
The Ferry was $7 RT to the islands, last time I remember. WELL worth the ride just to get the great view of the city, and get out of the city. 🙂
rent a car, avoid the taxi costs to and from the airport, and stay where you want without worrying about being that close.
just my 2 pesos - hard to tailgate from a taxi or on foot.....
here's a link for nearby hotels:

Last time that I was in Seattle a couple of years ago, I stayed for free. But it was at my brother and his wife's house. That probably wouldn't work for you....
If you do decide to rent a car and have some time, Mt. Ranier is a nice trip. So is Olympic National Park. From the ocean to the Hoh Rain Forest (west side of Mt. Olympus) to alpine meadows to glaciers, it's all there.
In October of 2001, I got a dirt cheap airline ticket, rental car for $10 a day, and a dirt cheap room in Seattle. Of course it was right after 9-11 and NOBODY was flying or traveling.
Well, Jim Fleming has the right idea, he's right at the high point of our budget. I've been looking downtown, but away from the Needle.
We usually don't mind paying a little more, if we can avoid renting a car the whole time. Maybe a car for a day or two, but mostly, we like to see the cities themselves. The usual first task is to find the all-day, on-and-off bus tour, so we can get the idea of where everything is. It's been a workable plan so far.
In recent years, we saw the city and a game in the following:
Baltimore (vs. Yankees)
Pittsburgh (v. Dodgers)
Chicago (v. Twins, but toured Wrigley)
Denver (Seattle)
Toronto (v. Yankees)
Washington DC (v. Rockies)
Boston (v. Tampa Bay)
Of course we've also seen the Mets, but only toured Yankee Stadium on an off day so far.Heck, the Yankee Stadium tour cost more than some of the tickets we bought in other cities!!
This year, we will see Seattle play Boston.
Thanks to all, and I welcome any other suggestions.
> This year, we will see Seattle play Boston.
Jon Lester's parents live right down the street from me! Maybe he will pitch that day....;-)
Dugger
Right now we are narrowing it down to Arctic Club, Hotel 1000 or the Fairmount.
June 26 to July 1, ballgame is June 28.
The good thing about a city with a domed stadium is that we don't have to worry about a rainout date.
Thanks for all the suggestions. As to a BeerlegFest, anything is possible, we are game.

Heck, the ball game sounds like fun in itself!! 🙂
