I have an old Silva Ranger Type 15 that the declination adjustment quit working on, called Silva (now owned by Johnson Outdoor Gear), lifetime warranty, send it in, fix or replace, no cost except for getting it back to them.
Not sure how old this one is, I have two or three, definitely been a couple of style changes since this one was new and honestly the new ones don't appeal to me as much, but sure can't beat the warranty.
I suspect this one is so old they will just replace, but hey $40 is $40, right?

Wow, haven't seen an aluminum bezel one in years, mine are all various styles of plastic bezel, they are a fine and essential piece of field equipment!
The gal that issued my RMA asked me if there was an sentimental value to the one I was returning, indicates she probably thought it to be non-repairable also.

On a side note, do you know why they put the mirror's on them? Yooper legend has it that it's to show the user the guy that's lost....
That is one use, I also use that mirror for reflecting light into monument wells, trying to see what I got in my eye, signaling while in the brush and probably a few other things, very handy tool in the field!

I use it to show the compass when using it at arms length, have used it to see the target and the compass face together. Never have used it as an aid to powdering my nose like my wife has done, had to get her, her own compass to use.

I have only used the bottom one briefly, my thought is the Silva was better for day to day use, more duarable, lighter and so on, if I needed something more then it was one of these.

I had my dad's old Silva Ranger from when he was in By Scouts in the 60's. It has the aluminum bezel. I gave it back to him a few years ago. I hope it's a long time before I get it back if you know what I mean.
It is a pretty cool compass. I have two of the plastic bezel ones now, one in each one of my trucks.
