We now seem to have a negative term for almost every letter in the alphabet.?ÿ F-word, R-word, N-word, etc.

Today, my phone rang and I knew immediately the call was not from anyone born and raised in my neck of the woods.?ÿ I think you know what I mean.?ÿ The background sounded like one of the boiler room calls wanting to save me from my current Medicare plan, purchase an extended warranty or renew my subscription to Roads and Bridges Magazine.?ÿ But, no.?ÿ It was an opportunity for having drafting and detail work done remotely.?ÿ I honestly would not farm that work out to anyone who has not been a former employee of mine.

To be honest,?ÿ I would have initially been far more receptive to the call had it been made from a spot without the boiler room background noise and if the caller had sounded more like Ol' Hank from a neighboring State.?ÿ Even Jeanie from Warrensburg or Beverly from Sapulpa would have been more welcome to explain the expertise in such work available through her office.?ÿ I did have a nice, but short, chat with the caller and politely assured him I had no need of his services.

I get them every day.?ÿ They're aggravating.?ÿ It's difficult to believe someone with such a thick Hindi accent is really named Larry.?ÿ Sometimes I tell them I'm in the middle of a mall shooting and can't talk.

@paden-cash?ÿ

So many of my sp*m calls are from "The ______ Department."?ÿ?ÿ My response is always "department of what company or government?"?ÿ?ÿ They always try to dodge the question and then I hang up.

Apparently, I have been pre-approved for nearly anything you can name.?ÿ And, my social security number has been cancelled.

I have quite a number of free magazine subscriptions with a variety of names having been provided to the publisher.?ÿ So, when I get a call for Skeezix or two initials that they are attempting to make into a single word/name to purchase home owner's insurance, it is quite clear that the magazine publisher has been selling their subscribers' listing.

@holy-cow?ÿ

You never get an email address totally removed from the lists.?ÿ I still get a few addressed to my stepdaughter's name with my email address.?ÿ The ONLY connection ever between her and that address was when I sent pictures to her real estate agent about 2004 when she was selling her dad's house.

@bill93?ÿ

In the snail mail category, I have probably received about two mailings per year for over 30 years from a ranch in Oklahoma that raises Registered Angus cattle.?ÿ The timing roughly matched the beginning of my free subscription to a magazine simply titled BEEF.?ÿ Similarly, once per year I get a mailing piece about the size of the J.C. Penney catalog, back in its heyday, promoting the raising of Limousin cattle.?ÿ Quarterly, I receive a couple of catalogs for tools and office supplies.?ÿ None of these mailings have succeeded in doing anything but adding to my trash.

Yƒ??all talking about land lines or cells? My land line receives about 10-15 crank yanker calls a day while my cell (T-Mobile) receives maybe 1 or 2 max a month. ?????ÿ

@flga-2-2 That is one of the reasons we dropped our land line.?ÿ I was on the "Do Not Call" registry but that doesn't appear to factor in at all.?ÿ If someone I don't know calls me, leave a message, because I'm most probably not going to pick up for a number I don't know.?ÿ I do return calls that are not for warranty, Medicare sales, etc.

Local gas stations have a card you can sign up to reduce your gas by $0.02 per gallon and other "perks". You get a card and all you have to do is sign up with your phone # and email and of course there are stores that do the same. SWMBO signs up to some of them for the discount.?ÿ

Some years ago I had a cell # that got changed so I always use it for those things. And I have a yahoo email that gets anything like that. I finally got SWMBO to use it cause the house email was overrun.?ÿ

There were tens of thousands of spam emails in it. All Junk, one day I deleted them and it took a while.?ÿ?ÿ

I don't know if my old phone # gets calls, even if anyone has it now.?ÿ

My favorite is the Home Depot "would you like an emailed receipt?". Which I take as code for "would you like a lifetime of spam from us?"

So far no one has labeled me with a specialized word.?ÿ Therefore, there must not be any of the current hyphenated terms to fit someone's immediate disdain and wariness for callers with foreign accents.?ÿ Say someone calls me to offer to sell me a livestock trailer and he sounds like Sudhir from Calcutta.?ÿ I am immediately skeptical and not interested because I do not know anyone who fits that description ranching in my general area.?ÿ Is that wrong?

I never did business with anybody with a thick Calcutta accent either.?ÿ And I don't consider it anywhere near wrong to be wary or think that way.?ÿ Old goats our age are NOT inconsiderate or narrow minded because of our lack of life experiences; although there are some that may feel that way.

There's a lot of people in this world younger than me that think we all need to be all lovie-dovie and accept others without prejudice.?ÿ Sounds good on paper.?ÿ But when I find a homeless wino rooting around in my garage at 2AM I am not going to jump to the conclusion that he's cold and just needs a hug and a warm place to stay.?ÿ ?ÿ

Consider me wrong or prejudicial, I don't care.?ÿ I've made it this far in life because of my experiences, not in spite of them.?ÿ

?ÿ

My friend is saying that a magazine with that name, has nothing to do with cattle.

You old timers still guarding your?ÿone?ÿemail address like it's the necronomicon? ????

Open a trash email account like people started doing 20 years ago and use that where applicable.?ÿ

The real problem is phone spam...
