What is the average hourly pay for an instrument person? Glass door dot com say $ 16.67 on average. Any thoughts?
Right now I have someone at $13 hr. part time in Central KY. Experience is a big factor. Have seen more and have seen less.
What are you experiencing?
I was getting $15/hr on my last two I-man jobs.
That's been several years ago now.
When I left my last job as an Instrument man I was making $17.50, I left and took a pay cut, needed more experience to get licensed.
Josh,
From my experience in the Paducah area, the range of pay is ridiculously big.
Keep in mind I am talking 10-15 years ago. At that time, you could go anywhere from around $8/hr to $13/hr for an instrument person (The lower rate being non-licensed, running the gun, not particularly party chiefing - but supposed to be thinking in the field).
Given the time that has passed I would expect an instrument person would now be at least starting at the $13/hr now as a minimum. The more experienced and qualified should of course be higher.
15-17 in DFW

No such thing as an instrument person here. The two man survey crew has mainly gone the way of the wooly mammoth, with rare exceptions of course. The minimum wage in WA is over $9/hr, i couldnt really see an instrument person at $16.67 in this area...if there are any.
Back when there were alot of two man crews in the area and the instrument man position was prevalent the wages varied greatly from company to company just like our survey estimates.
prevailing wage, King County Washington, for a chainman is $50.46....Per hour:-O
Yeah, I know, now everyone will want to move to Seattle..... :excruciating:
Washington Prevailing Wage Page.
Edit-
Sorry, to answer your question; An Assistant Construction Site Surveyor (I'm assuming that this is what they are calling an instrument man) makes $50.98...Per hour:clap:
As an example of our government screwing things up, the prevailing wage in Tennessee is $23 per hour. How did this happen? Well, it seems that several project engineers on TDOT highway construction project put their time down as instrument men. Apparently, there wasn't any other category for them to use on the wage sheet. So, that screwed the entire thing. I don't know any instrument men making that wage.

I talked to the owner of a large firm; he said that when he went to enter his numbers it was already done. When he asked what was going on, he was told that they recieved some that were done by proxey and that a few construction company's were doing that to make up for a lack of participation.

How many do you know that are making $51 per hr?
Did you check my link to Washington L&I site? Look at Adams county and an instrument man makes $12.05 an hour, LOL. Talk about government being screwed up.....
What's an Instrument man these days anyway? Robots and GPS, all the 2nd guy on the crew does is pound, write lath and do it again! Occasionally a note taker on a topo!
I remember in NY that the companies would list everyone as an instrument man or rodman instead of paying their licensed crew chiefs the prevailing crew chief wage. In my area of NC I would say instrumentman are making $12-$15/hr. Crew Chiefs $15-$20 and the wages have gone way down the last 5 years.
Scratch that 10-15 years ago. I am now so old I can't even remember how long ago long ago was. It was actually more like 15-20 years ago. So low end of the scale should probably be more in line with 15/hr.
I was making $20/ hour on the slope 20 years ago, I think it is averaging around that still today.

Thanks for all of the responses. We do the robotic and gps crews too. We also do quite abit of work in rough terrain where a instrument person is very handy.
I think I need a raise...:-$
