Another remote work site, house excavations and drainage setout.
Rangitoto ki te Tonga / D'Urville Island, Marlborough Sounds.
Lovely Autumn day around 23 degrees Celsius.?ÿ Owner did select the best weather forecast day for the trip.
House site was right at the top of a hill with spectacular views, but very exposed to the elements.?ÿ
Photos Cessna 185, Owhai Bay airstrip, Owhai Bay, view from house site (from a previous trip, I was busy).
Bloody spectaular that is mate, Fair Dinkum PAradise!
Beauty!
Where is the nearest hospital??ÿ How long to get there?
Rescue helicopter could be about 30 minutes to Hospital.
We helped develop the airstrip and a hanger, red building left of strip, beside old wool shed and farm buildings.?ÿ Owner learnt to fly and bought a light aircraft.?ÿ 20 min from new house site, to strip, prep and preflight 10 min and 20 to 30 flight time to strip then 10 min to town or doctor. If Weather permits.
Materials, supplies to site about 5 hours, road,?ÿ Barge to island, and unsealed roads and farm tracks.
?ÿ
Sure sign of old age when the first thing you ask about a beautiful landscape is how far it is to the nearest hospital!
Agreed.?ÿ But, I also started thinking about that when we began having kids in the house and I knew next to nothing about how to take care of them.
Many years ago I came up with a saying I would use as the herd of employees all headed towards the time clocks at the end of the work day. "Another day, another 52 cents."?ÿ If anyone asked what that meant I would tell them we spent 48 percent of our income on taxes.?ÿ I had no idea what the actual percentage was but it made them realize how little we really made compared to what it looked like we were making.
The first few years I worked construction we worked a minimum of 58 hrs/week. ?ÿUsually drove an hour each way on top of that. Walter Johnson was the head chainman, and after every long, hot day driving bluetops, we??d pile in the truck and the party chief would say ??we gave em 8 gooduns today didn??t we Johns...?
Bit of a climb if you had to get there by boat. Real eye candy that place is.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
One shouldn't be paid for working in places like that.
@richard-imrie Bite your tongue...?ÿ I live for working in places like that!?ÿ Sadly, I drive a desk most of the time these days.?ÿ I do get to live vicariously through all the people on this site though.
