@steve-corley Would you happen to have an Ashtech Model z-12 owner's manual?
We had a level, brand name, I think Wild, that someone from another office won somewhere. ?ÿSomehow we ended up with it. It had what seemed like 4x optics and the thing just would not stay in adjustment. ?ÿI refused to use it.
Sokkia iX robot. Didn't function properly with the field genius software we were using it with, several updates failed to fix it, several trips to the shop, failing motors and going out of calibration. The motors are really jumpy when trying to sight something in manually.?ÿ
The topcon gt-503 we have on loan seems to be a lot better, though it occasionally just takes and break and goes unresponsive, that is rare. The tracking is pretty good going past obstacles and it will track you up close.?ÿ
Previously I've used the Sokkia SRX robot (slow but reliable) and a conventional Leica TCR 803 ultra.?ÿ
Wow!?ÿ The wayback machine has been reactivated.
By me? There were other recent replies, but I see it's an old topic. Should a new thread have been started instead of using the old one? Maybe some of us would like to discuss the worst total stations in the past 10 or so years instead of the past 40+?

Either way works. Just live like you want to live!

No.?ÿ By torkflite.?ÿ Eight years and nearly 2 months since the latest prior comment.?ÿ I'm not sure if that's a record here or not.?ÿ I assume he was searching for something specific and happened onto this very old thread.
I have met Steve Corley once at a joint Missouri and Kansas state-level conference possibly around the same time as when this thread was started.?ÿ He was based in Little Rock, Arkansas at the time.?ÿ His last comment here was nine months ago.
Steve has spent most of his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.?ÿ It would be faster to locate him via other online sources than posting here, based on his lack of comments for such an extended period.
@holy-cow Mainly looking for info for an Ashtech Z-12. Manuals, cables part numbers, pinouts, etc.
@torkflite I don't know if my archive location has changed since the beginning of this thread, the current location is:
?ÿ https://ashgps.com/2021/Z12-Type%20Receivers/index.htm
However, I think this web folder could be geofenced. So if you are outside of North America, you may need to use a VPN or PM me with a country and I can whitelist it. Or perhaps zip up the whole mess and send you a copy.
Hmm, worst instrument... honestly, probably the TSC7 collector I'm currently using.?ÿ Strap the hood of a car onto the rod and try walking around the woods with it, and you'll probably see where I'm coming from.
@bstrand?ÿ
Add 50mph wind gusts and then the vibration of the 2m rod, fun times!!!!
@bstrand?ÿ
Agreed. I always have the bipod on my pole and I used the tsc7 and an s5 one day with an I man who's crew chief was on vacation and it was insanely heavy. Since I've spent a good portion of my time as a crew chief working solo and have to carry everything myself I can't imagine using that every day.?ÿ
I'm officially getting a Trimble robot at some point in the future and I requested the tsc5 instead of the tsc7.?ÿ
I requested the tsc5 instead of the tsc7.?ÿ
Unfortunately the TSC5 (6.9 x 11.3 x 1.7?). is only marginally smaller than the 7 (8.2 x 11.9 x 2.76?).
Yes the screen is smaller - but there is a huge amount of wasted space surrounding it.
The significant difference is that the 5 is android, the 7 win10.
It is not a good replacement for the TSC3.
Maybe there is a 4 in the pipeline?
I have theory....
The massiveness of the TSC7 Might be Trimble's attempt to get empty offices full of well trained and knowledgeable field operators.
That's definitely a THRAC ALERT POST?ÿ
I do love to hate it, but when I'm scanning and doing cross sections and topos on impoundments and structure, I love to be able to see and rotate the line work to see that I got just slightly more than I might have needed. That's the only real advantage I feel.
?ÿ
My -$0.02
@jimcox?ÿ
Probably will be the 4.7
Trimble likes to have room for incremental increase esp when they keep introducing another bug to fix the next time....
THRAC? yep.
Also truth.
