Several weeks ago I posted a reply to my own thread saying I would read/study/summarize comments relative to a proposed basis-of-bearing. http://www.globalcogo.com/Basis-of-bearing.pdf
Although there are other interesting threads on bearings, I have read and studied two in particular - the thread on Assumed Bearings from December/Jan and the thread I started in April. I continue to work on the summary but am not yet finished.
FYI:
1. The proposed basis-of-bearing article appeared in the NMPS May 2013 issue of NMPS Benchmarks and has generated discussion there as well.
2. Scott and I are meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss findings/summary.
3. The local chapter of NMPS is meeting on May 15th and Basis of Bearing will be one of several topics of discussion.
4. The NMPS Minimum Standards Committee will also take up the issue with the idea of proposing revisions/improvements to the NM Minimum Standards for Surveying.
5. I will be traveling May 19th to June 17th. Therefore, don't expect a complete summary before the end of June 2013.
Thanks to all for your interest, contributions, and patience.
Regards to all - Earl F. Burkholder
Scott and I worked through numerous comments and appreciate all who made the effort to respond. Thank you. The original paper and a preliminary summary are posted at http://www.globalcogo.com/Basis-of-Bearing-and-Summary.pdf
Basis-of-Bearing was part of a larger discussion at a recent local NMPS chapter meeting. It was gratifying to learn that most surveyors share similar goals with regard to how we conduct our profession.
There have been other threads on this board related to Basis-of-Bearing. We have read but, not studied, most of those comments. If, in 6-8 weeks, those postings and comments to this post warrant same, we will provide a more extensive summary.
