Anyone got any ideas how to make a Windows 7 machine talk to a HP 750c?

Check this out, looks like you might have to use the XP 64 bit drivers.

Tommy,
I feel your pain.
Got a new computer due to the EP discontinuence, and switching to Carlson.

Carlson installed OK.
EP will not install
Topcon tools installed, won't recognize the hardware key.
Win7 won't see the HP4000 laser printer
Win7 won't download the GPS via my USB to Ser cable
Have not figured out how to hook up the plotter yet.

I hate upgrades.
PS Docx suX.

If you are talking about MS Office .docx, you do have an option to save your document as a MS Word 97-2003 compatible .doc just by clicking on the Save as type menu below the File name menu that pops up. Under Word options/Save -- which is under the main drop down menu, you can change the default save setting from .docx to .doc

I don't know how anyone can expect older software to run on newer computers with new Operating Systems and 64-bit machines. This is a major reason why there are upgrades to software. I will say that it is true you own the software version you purchased but don't expect it to run on every OS that comes out years later without testing and changes to the program.

The Topcon Tools usb key worked for me. You might need to install the driver which I think is Sentinel.

Topcon says the are beta testing the Windows 7 drivers which connect their receivers to the computer via USB. You should be able to use a serial port (or usb to serial adapter) in the meantime. I still have my XP laptop which is able to connect everything which is what I usually use to download anyway.

Dave,
I sent an e-mail and he said the key works for 32 bit, not 64 bit systems, and I may have to run virtual machine. Is yours working on a 64 bit system?

I bought Tools ver5, updated to 6 on my XP machine that had a software key for PP. I bought 7.5 w/usb key with all modules. Maybe I need to try 8, I see that is on topcons website for download. Then again, the program seems to work the key isn't recognized properly. I did download and install sential drivers as the manual says, but no joy.

I think it is a 64 bit computer but I'm not at the office to check it. I'm using TTools version 7.

If the driver in snoop's link does not work try this:

HP Universal Print Driver

Go to the Windows 7 64 bit download. It worked on my Windows 7 machines. Oh, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on my machines.

Yeah or you can just add the ability to open Office 2007/2010 documents with Office XP or Office 2003 with a software addon from Microsoft.

Because we are old farts who like their 20 year old hardware and software. It works. We don't have to learn new technology, and can concentrate on actually getting the work turned out, rather than adapting to the new upgrade of software we really never learned how to use since the last update.

Tommy, I was able to use the 1050 driver for the 750 on a Vista 64 bit machine.

That's great that you like the software from whenever you bought it. Just understand that it isn't necessarily the software companies fault when you purchase a new computer with a newer Operating System. This has to be tested and new programming for the software to work on that new computer. Someone has to pay for it...
